The Superman & Lois finale has provided one last look at the iconic DC show and all the beloved figures inside it, culminating in an emotional sendoff for its two titular characters. Superman & Lois season 4, episode 9 left things at a crucial and tense point in the story, with Superman locked in a battle with Doomsday where it seemed impossible he would win. Episode 10 reveals the outcome of both this conflict and Clark"s intense rivalry with Lex Luthor, before turning to tying up all the series" remaining last loose ends.
With the live-action Superman show releasing its first episode in February 2021, it"s been a long path to its final episode, which comes over three years later. However, the finale proves this time has been well-spent, as almost all of the stories and connections built up over the seasons and years come into play in big ways in the last chapter. All in all, Superman & Lois season 4 concludes the show"s run with one last emotion-filled and impactful goodbye to its heroes and all that define them in its ending.
Superman Vs Doomsday Round 2 Takes An Unusual Direction Close Naturally, given Superman & Lois season 4, episode 9 finishes with Clark having a rematch with Doomsday - and since Superman was killed by Doomsday in their first fight at the start of season 4 - the ending of the show starts out with some considerable focus on the pair"s second round. Luckily, Clark learns from his previous mistakes after some nudging from Lois, and has Jordan and Jonathan fly Doomsday right into Steel"s hammer, allowing Superman to fly him up to the sun.
In space, however, there is another twist, as Doomsday appears to regain some level of his consciousness and memories as Bizarro, and - recalling his own memories as the Bizarro world Superman - sacrifices himself in order to put an end to things, and to seemingly save Superman, who likely otherwise would"ve had to potentially sacrifice his own life to finally stop Doomsday. Given Bizarro was both ally and enemy to Superman in previous parts of the story, it"s a fitting sendoff for the character, and a surprisingly emotional one at that.
Superman Finally Defeats Lex Luthor

Lex uses the upgraded Steel suit to take Superman on, and even manages to employ the Kryptonite screws Milton crafted, which embed themselves painfully into Clark"s flesh. However - motivated by a desire to end things for once and for all - Superman is able to crush a Kryptonite screw with his bare hands, and then take the fight fully to Lex and use all his energy reserve to finally beat him.
Lex is arrested, and Clark and Lois later learn his appeal is denied, meaning he"s put away for life in Stryker prison. Crucially, rather than the lavish life he previously led in the prison after breaking it to his whim, Lex is put in a normal cell - which is revealed to be because Bruno Mannheim is there, and dedicated to ensuring Luthor doesn"t get a luxurious prison stay. Indeed, Mannheim references Lex forcing someone to be his human chair when he was last there, threatening to instead have Luthor be his chair instead.
Superman & Lois’ Timeskips Make Some Big Updates Close The Superman & Lois ending contains two timeskips, with the first being a year long, and the second being more gradual, going from this point to 32 years after the events of season 4. The first timeskip alone contains a lot of big reveals, with John Henry Irons and Lana Lang getting married, Chrissy and Kyle preparing for the birth of their second child, and Sarah revealing to Jordan that she thinks remaining abroad is right for her. Jordan states that he feels like he"s in the right place himself, suggesting his prior inner turmoil is at least somewhat settled.
The second timeskip is the more serious one, showing Superman, Jordan, Jonathan, Steel and Starlight flying together as a superhero team, and Clark connecting with Bruno Mannheim, hoping the criminal can be redeemed due to his later assistance of him and Lois. On a similar note, Clark Kent"s narration also reveals that the hero began work on a charity to use the attention and prestige tied to the Superman name to help others outside of just protecting people from superpowered threats and natural disasters.
Most crucially, the timeskip shows Jordan and Jonathan as adults during the portions of the final montage that also provide a look at an older Clark and Lois. The boys remain heroes, and each end up with wives and then children, allowing their parents to become grandparents. This sets the show up for its final scenes, which end the story of the show"s Clark Kent and Lois Lane.
Clark Kent & Lois Lane Get Their DC Show Endings

The last moments of Superman & Lois are, fittingly, dedicated to the final days of both titular characters. Though Clark"s narration confirms the two got many, many happy years together after the defeat of Lex Luthor and defeat and sacrifice of Doomsday, he also explains that Lois" cancer sadly recurred, eventually leading to her death. Clark lives for some years after this - adopting Krypto the dog, here a regular golden retriever with no powers, to keep him company after Lois" passing.
However, it seems Krypto may have outlived his owner, as Clark states he got 32 years after the main events of Superman & Lois season 4, with his human replacement heart eventually giving out after a long, rewarding life not so long after Lois. Mercifully, while Superman"s death is sad, the sequence after it provides a final sendoff to the hero, showing him having a vision of saying goodbye to all the important people in his life - including Lex Luthor - before meeting Lois in the afterlife, ensuring the pair get to end their show together.

The series has always made sure to focus on Clark Kent as much as Superman, unfolding all the ways in which his civilian life is as important as his hero life, both in terms of his family and friends, and in the ways these connections inform his heroism. The story has long hinged around the value of human connection, and its ending makes sure to underline how crucial all these bonds truly have been.
Superman & Lois ran for 53 episodes, with season 4 being its shortest season at 10 episodes.
While seeing Superman permanently die after his long life is a bittersweet affair, knowing that despite the odds - and the several plots seemingly custom-made to kill him off earlier in his life - he lived a long, happy life surrounded by his loved ones and doing the work that mattered most to him, the ending certainly seems more sweet than it is bitter. As such, the Superman & Lois finale closes the book on the show in an emotional but fitting way, ensuring the series remains a crucial point of the hero"s on-screen legacy.
