Andrew Garfield Wants People To Ask Less Questions About Spider-Man: “I’m Still Working On It”

Fan-favorite Marvel hero Andrew Garfield opened up about his relationship with his iconic role in The Amazing Spider-Man in 2012. He played the titular character for both that film and its 2014 sequel The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Garfield later reprised the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Spider-Man: No Way Home. The latter film brought his character into the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe, as well as Tobey Maguire"s Spider-Man, Willem Dafoe"s Green Goblin, and Jamie Foxx"s Electro, among others. Garfield"s return was very well-received, largely because the film gave a conclusion to his tragic loss of Gwen Stacy.
Prior to the release of No Way Home, Garfield was constantly dodging rumors that he would appear in the film. Since then, the actor has grappled with a large amount of buzz surrounding his future as Spider-Man, a prospect he once thought was lost to him. Even so, it is difficult for him as an actor because interviews often redirect to older projects instead of those he"s actually promoting. Per Variety, Garfield “had to work very hard to have less people ask questions about "Spider-Man."”
The Spider-Man performer explained that though he"s "still working on it, obviously," and "it"s an imperfect process," Garfield was “grateful for” playing the role. He elaborated portraying the character “allowed [him] to maybe have an easier shot at working with people like Martin Scorsese straight after.”

It has been a decade since The Amazing Spider-Man franchise came to an end, so while reprising his role was fun for both the actor and fans, he may not be rushing back to Marvel. After all, Garfield"s career blossomed in the years since.

Notably, Garfield did not say he is no longer interested in playing Spider-Man, just that he"d like to focus on his current roles in interviews. That does not at all rule out a return for hs Spider-Man in the future. Avengers: Secret Wars will take a multiversal approach, so Garfield and Maguire could both feasibly return. That aside, the renewed interest in Garfield"s Peter Parker bodes well for the future of The Amazing Spider-Man, provided he wants to return.
