Popular Kang Replacement Actor"s 2025 MCU Role Is A Major Missed Opportunity With 1 Potential Exception

Marvel may have just missed a major opportunity because of an upcoming Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man casting, but there’s still a chance for things to turn around. The character of Kang the Conqueror was originally going to be the focus of the MCU’s Multiverse Saga and the main villain that the Avengers would have to take down. However, Kang actor Jonathan Majors was found guilty on two misdemeanor counts of harassment and assault, leading him to be dropped from any future MCU projects.
The initial fan speculation about Kang’s MCU fate included the chance that the character would be recast. These hopes were eventually squashed as Marvel decided to pivot the Multiverse Saga from focusing on Kang to Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom instead. Though a Kang replacement actor won’t be needed anymore, there were plenty of talented actors brought up in the discussion who Marvel should still consider for potential roles. One of the fan favorites was just cast in the franchise, but he still has much more MCU potential beyond his upcoming role.
A Popular Casting Choice To Be Marvel's Kang Replacement Actor Joins The MCU In 2025

Actor Colman Domingo was one of the fan-favorite options to replace Kang in the MCU. Known for his previous work in theater and shows like Euphoria and Fear the Walking Dead, Domingo has proven his acting ability time and time again. It’s no wonder that he was a popular casting choice for Kang, but any hope of that was squashed with Marvel’s Doctor Doom pivot. However, Domingo will still get his MCU debut as he’ll be voicing Norman Osborn in the animated series Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, which will premiere in January 2025.
In a past interview, Domingo talked about having open conversations with Marvel Studios and potentially having a role in the future MCU. He expressed interest in joining the franchise but wanted to make sure that it would be in a role he was truly passionate about. Some expected that to mean a live-action role, but it ended up coming in the form of voice acting first. Fans can at least be confident that the character would be an interesting one if Domingo was willing to take Marvel up on their offer so soon.
Colman Domingo's Marvel Casting Is A Missed Opportunity If He Doesn't Get To Join The MCU Proper Close Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will be set in an alternate timeline to the main MCU universe, meaning that Domingo’s role isn’t technically canon. Despite that being a bit of a disappointment, it doesn’t mean that’ll be the end of his MCU time completely. Now that Domingo has a foot in the franchise, this could open the door for other future opportunities. It would be wasted potential if Marvel didn’t capitalize on Domingo’s willingness to work with the MCU considering how much talent he’d bring to the screen.

Posts Domingo’s 2025 MCU role may not be the debut that fans were expecting, but it’s a good sign that he’s getting involved with Marvel even after their pivot away from Kang. Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man might actually end up being the perfect introduction project for him as it"s animated. It means Domingo could still appear in live-action at some point, whether it ends up being Norman Osborn himself or another character, and Marvel should make sure that they give such talent a proper spot in the MCU eventually.
