I"m Desperate For The MCU To Redeem The 1 X-Men Villain Story That"s Been Wasted For 28 Years On-Screen

One iconic Marvel Comics villain has been wasted on-screen for almost three decades, so I would love to see Marvel Studios" upcoming X-Men reboot finally do him justice in the MCU. 20th Century Fox made many mistakes with its X-Men franchise, which included misusing some of my favorite mutant characters, not introducing many others, and butchering some of Marvel Comics" best mutant-centric storylines. I have a huge amount of hope for the future of the X-Men, however, as I have faith that Marvel Studios will handle the MCU"s mutants with much more care.
While I imagine this will directly help the most central members of the X-Men team, including the likes of Professor X, Cyclops, Storm and Rogue, I"m also hopeful this will benefit the X-Men"s most iconic villains. Fox wasted the likes of Apocalypse, Mister Sinister and Sebastian Shaw"s Hellfire Club, but I reckon these villains, and many more, could seek redemption in the MCU. I recently rewatched X-Men: The Animated Series on Disney+, so I"m now hopeful that one notably-missing villain from Fox"s X-Men franchise will also get reimagined in the MCU.
Omega Red Had A Crucial Role In X-Men: The Animated Series Omega Red Appeared In Four Episodes Of X-Men: The Animated Series Close After appearing as a brief flash in Sabretooth"s mind in X-Men: The Animated Series season 1, episode 4, "Deadly Reunions," Omega Red made his first full appearance in the series in season 2, episode 4, "Red Dawn." Omega Red is one of my favorite X-Men villains from Marvel Comics, so I loved rewatching the classic animated series and seeing him in action. In "Red Dawn," Omega Red, the Soviet Union"s answer to Captain America, battled Colossus, Darkstar and the X-Men after being awoken to reignite and rule the Soviet Empire.
Omega Red had a non-speaking cameo in the three-part finale of 2024"s X-Men "97, a revival of X-Men: The Animated Series.
Storm defeated Omega Red by freezing him in a block of ice, and the villain returned in X-Men: The Animated Series season 4, episode 2, "A Deal with the Devil," embarking on an underwater mission with Wolverine and Storm, and was later seen in a flashback which revealed he fought Team X during the Cold War. Omega Red is an incredibly powerful villain that I would love to see reimagined in the live-action MCU. This seems like a necessity to me, as Omega Red hasn"t had a good adaptation since 1996, as Fox"s X-Men franchise practically ignored the iconic supervillain.

Omega Red is widely regarded to be one of the greatest comic book villains of all time, which meant I was very surprised that he didn"t get more attention in Fox"s X-Men franchise. In fact, Omega Red only appeared once in the two-decade-long franchise, and this was only as a very brief cameo as a prisoner in the Ice Box in 2018"s Deadpool 2. Dakoda Shepley had the perfect appearance for Omega Red, but I was very disappointed not to see the villain suit up in his iconic Marvel Comics costume and be equipped with his powerful carbonadium tentacles.

Posts 20th Century Fox wasted several iconic villains in the X-Men franchise, so the fact that Omega Red was completely sidelined doesn"t come as much of a shock. However, the fact that he didn"t even get a cameo in his costume, perhaps in a flashback or vision akin to his introduction in X-Men: The Animated Series, is even more disappointing. I hated that Omega Red was relegated to simply being a practically-unseen prisoner. Screenwriter Byron Burton revealed to The Hollywood Reporter in 2019 that an Omega Red movie was drafted at Fox, but this never came to fruition.
Now Is The Perfect Time To Introduce Omega Red To The MCU Marvel Studios Is Laying The Foundations For More Mutants & The X-Men

I"ll come right out and say it: I loved Eternals. I was really excited to see something new and fresh in the MCU, and I"m even more thrilled that the world-changing ending of the 2021 movie will soon be addressed, as the Celestial Tiamut will be revisited in 2025"s Captain America: Brave New World. Tiamut will be revealed to be a source of adamantium in the MCU, the legendary metal that coats Wolverine"s skeleton and is connected to many other mutants, and this presents the perfect opportunity for Omega Red to also be set up.
It"s not adamantium that forms Omega Red"s formidable tentacles in Marvel Comics, but carbonadium. Carbonadium is another fictional metal in Marvel Comics that originated due to Russian attempts to recreate adamantium. Still nearly indestructible, but more malleable and cheaper than adamantium, carbonadium could easily be introduced to the MCU after adamantium becomes common knowledge in Brave New World. This opens the door for Omega Red to finally appear in the MCU, which makes me even more excited for the MCU"s upcoming Phase 5 slate following Captain America: Brave New World"s introduction of some game-changing concepts and resources.
Omega Red Could Be A Great Villain For Several Upcoming MCU Heroes Omega Red Battles More Than Just The X-Men In Marvel Comics

Omega Red is obviously most commonly associated with Wolverine and the X-Men, but he has also been a villain to many other heroes in Marvel Comics, making me think he could appear in a number of upcoming MCU stories. As the Soviet Union"s answer to Captain America, I think there"s a possibility Omega Red could actually debut in Captain America: Brave New World, which makes me very excited, as unlikely as this might be. Omega Red would be a great villain for Sam Wilson"s Captain America, even if his Phase 5 movie is already jam-packed with notable MCU villains.

Posts As well as possibly fighting Captain America in the MCU, I could also see Omega Red taking on Matt Murdock"s Daredevil. Omega Red battled Daredevil and Black Widow in Marvel Comics" Daredevil #368 in 1997, and I reckon this would be a great storyline for Charlie Cox"s Matt Murdock to embark on, perhaps with Florence Pugh"s Yelena Belova, after 2025"s Daredevil: Born Again. Of course, I reckon Omega Red would be a perfect long-running villain for the MCU"s upcoming mutant storylines, whether that be in the X-Men reboot or beyond.
