I"m Determined That 1 Marvel Hero Will Return To The MCU After 6 Years

I"m very hopeful that another Defenders Saga will be returning to the MCU after a six-year hiatus because of a new Daredevil: Born Again update. I was thrilled when Marvel boss Kevin Feige confirmed that a new Daredevil series would be developed for the MCU following the cancelation of the original Netflix show that released as part of Marvel Television"s Defenders Saga. I"m so excited to see iconic Defenders Saga characters back in action in Daredevil: Born Again, including Daredevil, Kingpin, Karen Page, Foggy Nelson, the Punisher and Bullseye, among others, but I want more.
Daredevil: Born Again is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ on March 4, 2025, reintroducing us to the gritty street-level adventures of Charlie Cox"s Matt Murdock. The Defenders Saga being made MCU canon in early-2024 means the other Netflix heroes may also make appearances soon, but no others have yet been confirmed to be returning. Luckily, however, recent comments from Marvel Studios" Head of Streaming, Television and Animation, Brad Winderbaum, have me convinced another major Defenders Saga character will appear in Daredevil: Born Again.
Marvel Exec Teases An Intricate New York In Daredevil: Born Again Daredevil Is The Perfect Street-Level Hero For The MCU

Brad Winderbaum appeared in an episode of the Phase Hero podcast in November 2024 and revealed that he is very excited about the "extremely intricate" version of New York City that Daredevil: Born Again showrunner Dario Scardapane has created. Winderbaum also noted that Born Again will explore "multiple factions vying for power," which makes me think that the upcoming series will detail almost medieval New York. This could prove very important, as I reckon there"s one Defenders Saga hero that fits perfectly into this power-mad version of New York.

The version of New York that Dario"s [Scardapane] come up with is extremely intricate; it almost feels like a palace intrigue show. I have compared it to Game of Thrones in some recent interviews, and I think that"s true... There"s just multiple factions vying for power in really complex ways, and there"s true tragedy to certain people"s destinies based on their own choices.

Brad Winderbaum’s Comments Make Me Think Luke Cage Will Be Returning To The MCU Luke Cage Became A Power-Hungry Hero In The Defenders Saga Close Although he was never my personal favorite hero, Mike Colter"s Luke Cage was one of the most popular parts of the Defenders Saga. Luke Cage is an iconic Marvel hero who has been through some huge transformations over the years, and we saw one of these stories unfold on Netflix, too, as Luke Cage season 2 explored the titular hero"s evolution into something of a crime boss himself. Mariah Dillard left Luke Cage Harlem"s Paradise, traditionally the home of Harlem"s crime families, in her will, and he accepted his new position with little hesitation.
Luke Cage even threatened Italian crime boss Rosalie Carbone in Luke Cage season 2"s finale, ensuring she would keep out of Harlem, and establishing himself as the new "sheriff" of the borough. Following Brad Winderbaum"s comments, I can clearly see Mike Colter"s Luke Cage making a return as one of the people in power vying for control of New York City. This would be a great way to bring Colter back to the MCU, answer one of the Defenders Saga"s most annoying loose ends, and developing Luke Cage"s story even more before he returns to the MCU more permanently.
How Luke Cage Fits Perfectly Into Daredevil: Born Again’s Story Luke Cage Is The Best Character To Return In This New New York

Luke Cage establishing himself as a new crime boss back in 2018 was a huge change for the Marvel hero, and if this event is now MCU canon, it"s high time we got some pay off. A crime boss version of Luke Cage would fit perfectly into the medieval-style New York City that Dario Scardapane seems to have created for Daredevil: Born Again, as Cage himself could want control of the city for himself. This could easily bring him to odds with his Defenders teammates and Wilson Fisk"s Kingpin, though I"d hate to see Luke Cage become an outright villain.

When Wilson Fisk becomes Mayor of New York in Marvel Comics, it"s Luke Cage who opposes him publicly, and Cage himself eventually becomes Mayor. This storyline has been heavily teased for Daredevil: Born Again, so I think it would be incredible to see Mike Colter"s Luke Cage return in the upcoming series to take down the villainous Mayor Fisk.
