Grant Gustin Addresses Whether He Would Return As Barry Allen For The Flash Reboot TV Show
DC star Grant Gustin, who played Barry Allen in the Arrowverse for a decade, reveals if he would agree to do a
The Flash reboot show. December 2024 marked the end of the Arrowverse franchise, as Superman & Lois season 4 was the last remaining series in The CW"s DC TV line-up. However, the last show from the Earth-Prime side of the Arrowverse that came to a recent conclusion was The Flash, which aired for 9 seasons on The CW, making it the longest-running series in the franchise.
During a new appearance on Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum, Gustin was asked if he would be open to doing either a 10-episode mini-series for The Flash. Gustin, who joined the Arrowverse in 2014 and portrayed the fastest man alive until 2023, stated that he would love to revisit the DC property, but with conditions, as he shared the following:
"Yeah, of course, there"s a lot of things that I"d have to like ask... not for, but about. I"d be more interested in the [creative side]."
While there may not be any official plans for The Flash to get a sequel series,
Rosenbaum also asked if it would be important for Gustin to be involved with a hypothetical follow-up series as a producer. For the producer question, Gustin responded,
"maybe, yeah," as the DC TV star didn"t have any creative involvement with the original The Flash show during its run.
What Grant Gustin's The Flash Revival Comments Mean For The Show Close While there is no guarantee that The Flash will return,
TV revivals and sequels are happening more than ever, especially for shows that had an original long and successful run. Even though The Flash season 9 ending served as a good conclusion in 2023, if Gustin is still open to revisiting Barry and his world, it showcases that he still enjoys his part in the franchise. Knowing that he would also like to have a creative attachment this time around shows that it"s important for Gustin to have a say in where they take the story.
The prospect would also likely depend on which of the other The Flash cast members would return too -
particularly the core characters who were part of the series since the very beginning. For example, it would be crucial to have actors like Candice Patton back as Iris West-Allen, especially for a continuation show now that she and Barry are parents, following the birth of Nora West-Allen in The Flash series finale. Whether or not Gustin would get a The Flash sequel remains to be seen, as DC Studios is currently putting most of their focus on building their new DC Universe.
Why A The Flash Reboot Would Make Sense For DC Right Now Close If DC Studios and Warner Bros. Discovery were to go forward with a The Flash revival with Gustin, it would be arriving at the proper time for several reasons. The same year as The Flash season 9 finished its run on The CW, DC Films debuted The Flash movie with Ezra Miller after multiple delays and years of being stuck in development hell. However, the Scarlet Speedster"s theatrical film went in the opposite direction of Gustin"s TV show, by
becoming one of the biggest critical and commercial failures in the superhero movie genre.
It can be argued that The Flash film has definitely hurt the overall IP to some degree, which is likely one of the reasons that a DCU The Flash movie is not on the table for the time being. That is why bringing Gustin"s The Flash back, even for a limited series, could help DC Studios move away from the general public"s perception of the hero and his on-screen potential. Regardless of how some of the later seasons performed, Gustin has become synonymous with the Scarlet Speedster, with many seeing him as the definitive actor for the DC icon.
Having a The Flash sequel TV show would also be a better (even if not official) transition for whenever the DCU does get ready to use the character or the overall mythology in its world.
They could even use Gustin"s miniseries as a way to introduce the new version of The Flash for DC Studios. With the multiverse concept at their disposal, Gustin"s Barry could cross into the DCU and share an adventure with whoever will be the Scarlet Speedster in that universe, as a fun passing of the baton to the next actor.
Our Take On Grant Gustin's The Flash Revival Comments

Despite being on the air for a decade,
there are lots of other stories that The Flash could explore if it ever got a revival in any shape or form, especially if Gustin were to be creatively involved this time around. While The CW is no longer a destination for DC TV content, DC Studios could always have The Flash return for a limited run through Max, especially if they want to lean into more Elseworld properties. For now, though, the world can relive every single season of
The Flash through streaming and on Blu-ray/DVD.
