Jason Momoa Confirmed For His Dream DC Universe Recasting 1 Year After Aquaman"s End, Sets Supergirl Debut In 2026

Jason Momoa"s return to the DC Universe in a dream role may finally have been confirmed over a year after the end of the Aquaman franchise. The upcoming movies of the DCU are mostly confirmed, as James Gunn"s rebooted franchise gets underway. As is evident in James Gunn"s Superman movie, the actors responsible for bringing the Justice League to life are changing. This leaves Jason Momoa out of the job as Aquaman, yet the actor may have another role lined up as part of the DCU"s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.
On Jason Momoa"s personal Instagram account, the actor confirmed that talks are underway between him and DC Studios. The actor took to social media and posted an old news snippet in which he spoke about being recast as Lobo, a DC character who Momoa has long been fancast as:
The snippet posted by Momoa revolves around the actor"s older comments that if he received a call about playing Lobo from DC, it would be an immediate yes. At the time, Momoa confirmed that he had never received a call of this ilk from DC. However, the repost of the snippet on Momoa"s Instagram is accompanied by the caption "They called," proving that Momoa coming back to DC as Lobo is on the cards over a year after hanging up his trident as Arthur Curry/Aquaman, with Deadline further reporting his debut will come in 2026’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
What Jason Momoa's Lobo Post Means Talks Are Ongoing Momoa"s Lobo post means exactly what it seems: the actor is in talks to play the character in the DC Universe. Momoa"s post confirms that James Gunn and Peter Safran, the co-heads of DC Studios, have been in touch with Momoa about playing Lobo specifically. Since the reboot of the DC Universe was confirmed, Gunn has mentioned that they will try and find a role for Momoa after how great the actor was as Aquaman in the DCEU.
This role was always theorized to be Lobo, yet official confirmation has been lacking - until now. Momoa"s post reveals that his dream role is finally on offer by DC Studios, throwing into question which upcoming DCU projects will feature the character beyond Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. It will likely not be long before Gunn, who is also active on social media, addresses Momoa as Lobo, potentially revealing even more stories that could center around the intergalactic bounty hunter.
Our Take On Jason Momoa Playing Lobo In The DCU I am sure that this will come as a surprise to no one, but I think Momoa playing Lobo in the DC Universe is the perfect choice. The character and actor look incredibly alike, and Momoa has long stated that this - combined with the actor"s knowledge of the DC character - makes the role perfect for him. I was always someone who loved Momoa as Aquaman too, but I always desired seeing him in a darker role, which Lobo would offer.
Lobo being an intergalactic bounty hunter would give Momoa more room to play beyond what was allowed by the character of Aquaman. If this does indeed come in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Momoa could play off of Milly Alcock"s Supergirl exceptionally. Overall, this simply seems like a home run. Momoa was always committed to whatever role or story he had in the DCEU, and this could now continue in the DCU as a character that seems perfect for the actor.
