According to a new report from The Wrap, Chris Evans has been cast in 2026"s Avengers: Doomsday. His role and its impact on the movie remain undisclosed for now, but the news sure is exciting. Evans reunites with Robert Downey Jr., who now plays Doctor Doom instead of Iron Man, in the movie, as well as Captain America/Avengers franchise directors the Russo Brothers and writer Stephen McFeely. Evans also commented at C2E2 in Chicago that April about returning as the hero, and the actor agreed that Captain America still has future potential, saying, "I think there’s more Steve Rogers stories to tell," but Evans reiterated that the role was special to him, and so he was afraid of doing anything that could mess up Steve Rogers" golden run at Marvel.

However, it could be a great way for him to return in a leadership role in Avengers: Doomsday while Anthony Mackie"s Sam Wilson, who is also reportedly in the movie, continues as Captain America. The older Steve could play the role of a SHIELD statesman or something of the sort, helping coordinate the film"s many heroes. The MCU's Multiverse Saga Makes A Steve Rogers Variant Possible There Is A Very Popular Suggestion For Who Evans Could Portray

While the MCU"s original Steve Rogers is most likely still alive, just old, the Multiverse Saga allows Evans to come back as a younger version of the character from another universe. This way, Steve Rogers" perfect MCU journey and ending would be left untouched, while Evans could appear in Avengers: Doomsday and possibly other projects. Though there is a chance that a multiverse role for Evans would include another hero version of Captain America, the most requested variant of Steve Rogers for the actor to play is Hydra"s Captain America from the comics. The MCU even teased that storyline before.
