The MCU Makes A Major Change To Spider-Man"s Origin That"s Been Part Of Every Peter Parker Story For 63 Years

Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man episodes 1 & 2.
Thanks to the story of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, the MCU just confirmed a major Peter Parker/Spider-Man origin story change. Initially planned as an early exploration of Spider-Man"s timeline in the MCU, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man was altered to become a multiversal storyline. This is more clear than ever by the time of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man episode 2"s ending, with Norman Osborn becoming the mentor to Peter Parker instead of the MCU"s Tony Stark.
As a result, the show will not be tied to the MCU"s upcoming Spider-Man 4. Instead, it will be carving out its own mythology for the iconic Web-Slinger that has ties to Marvel Comics, the MCU multiverse, and many other iterations of the hero. The characters of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man are proof of this, from Norman Osborn and his son Harry being depicted as people of color to Dr. Curtis Connors changing to Dr. Carla Connors. Aside from these changes, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man makes a more drastic one that alters the titular hero"s origin story with MCU implications.
The MCU Makes A Significant Change To When Peter Parker Gets His Powers Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Outlines Peter's Spider Bite Custom Image by Grant Hermanns In the opening of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man episode 1, Peter is shown rushing to his first day at Midtown High. Upon arriving at the school, a portal opens up above him, spitting out a creature that has seemingly come into contact with the Venom symbiote and a variant of Dr. Strange from another dimension. Another intruder in the universe is a small spider that remains after Dr. Strange leaves, biting Peter Parker and giving him his Spider-Man powers.
What makes this origin story for Spider-Man interesting is the timeline of events. Peter is living with Aunt May at the beginning of the episode, with the two talking about how they lost Uncle Ben before Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man episode 1. This marks a big change as Peter received his Spider-Man powers after Uncle Ben died, differing from most iterations of his origin story that depict Peter"s powers manifesting before Ben"s death.
What Marvel's Spider-Man Origin Story Change Means For The MCU The Change Has Implications Regarding Tom Holland's Spider-Man Custom image by Ana Nieves Given that Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is a new take on the character set in its own dimension, this change makes a lot of sense. What makes it more intriguing, however, is the implications it has on the MCU"s Spider-Man, played by Tom Holland. Throughout Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man episode 1 specifically, direct parallels to the MCU"s Spider-Man were made, from the "QUEENS" opening card to Peter finding a DVD player in the trash and entering his apartment listening to alt-J"s "Left Hand Free" as Aunt May talks to a wealthy future mentor for her nephew.
This implies that Peter"s MCU origin story was similar and that the spider bite came after Uncle Ben"s death...
It is only upon the reveal that this mentor is Norman Osborn and not Tony Stark that the differences between Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man and the MCU"s Spider-Man reveal themselves, long after the origin story is shown. Therefore, this implies that Peter"s MCU origin story was similar and that the spider bite came after Uncle Ben"s death. This makes sense given that Aunt May became Ben"s stand-in regarding the classic "With great power comes great responsibility" line in Spider-Man: No Way Home, rendering Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’s origin change one that could mean the same for the MCU.
