10 Guardians of the Galaxy Movie Quotes That Aged Poorly

The Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy is one of the best franchises in the entire MCU. However, it"s not without its flaws Although there are so many good and hilarious lines across all three movies, there are still a handful that haven"t aged so well with the passing of time and subsequent rewatches.
Director James Gunn released the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie in 2014, followed by Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in 2017. There was also the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special which aired on Disney+ in 2022, followed by the most recent chapter with the concluding Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in 2023. The Guardians are a staple of the MCU, featuring a rag-tag cast of galactic outlaws and outsiders who become heroes and even helped save the universe in the third and fourth Avengers movies. That being said, here are 10 lines that have aged pretty poorly from the main three Guardians of the Galaxy movies.
10 "If I had a blacklight, this would look like a Jackson Pollock painting." Star-Lord, Guardians of the Galaxy Upon their breakout from the interstellar prison known as The Kyln, the yet-to-be-named Guardians are all on board Peter Quill"s ship for the first time, planning their next move to sell the Orb. However, The Milano doesn"t make a very good first impression on Gamora, who tells Star-Lord his craft is filthy. As she leaves, Quill agrees, telling Rocket that a black light would reveal far more disgusting parts of his ship and that it would look like "a Jackson Pollock painting".
This is one of the grosser lines in the Guardians franchise, and its implications aren"t great to think about with rewatches, especially as Star-Lord has evolved to become more of a legitimate hero. It"s admittedly a humorous line and works as a means to show audiences the kind of person Quill was. However, one could easily argue it hasn"t aged all that well considering how much it now clashes with the kind of character Quill has become in the years since.
9 "How could I think Tivan could contain whatever was in that Orb?" Gamora, Guardians of the Galaxy Following the destruction of the Collector"s collection on Knowhere thanks to the Orb and the reveal that it holds an Infinity Stone, Gamora implies that she didn"t know what it contained. However, this doesn"t make much sense after Avengers: Endgame and the jump back to 2014 which reveals Gamora and Nebula were specifically sent to join Ronan because he was closing in on an Infinity Stone for Thanos. It also doesn"t help that the temple of Morag where the Orb was kept was revealed to have been named "The Temple of the Power Stone". As such, Gamora"s apparent ignorance in the first Guardians of the Galaxy doesn"t quite work in hindsight.
8 "And this green whore..." Drax, Guardians of the Galaxy During the Battle of Xandar in the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie, Drax confirms he now sees his fellow Guardians as friends. One by one, Drax the Destroyer confirms that Quill is his friend, and that this "dumb tree" Groot is his friend. However, he then refers to Gamora as a "green whore", which really comes out of left field. Although it was later confirmed by the filmmakers that Drax genuinely believed "green whore" was Gamora"s species after hearing one of Kyln"s inmates referring to her as such, the movie doesn"t exactly highlight that point, so the comment can arguably feel jarring with rewatches.
7 "Dance off bro! Me and you!" Star-Lord, Guardians of the Galaxy Love it or hate it, Star-Lord"s dance-off to save the universe is one of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise"s most definitive moments, preceding the official formation of the Guardians as they share the destructive energy of the Power Stone and defeat Ronan. While the dance-off distraction fits very well with Quill"s character as a great spur-of-the-moment tactic to keep Ronan"s attention occupied, some have argued that the initial line from Star-Lord is a little cringey. It might have played better from the get-go if Star-Lord had just kept dancing.
6 "A Garden of the Galaxy..." Nebula, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 While not featured in the movie itself, the above line from Nebula was heavily used in the trailers for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. After her capture, Nebula mocks her sister: "Look at you...a Garden of the Galaxy". Naturally, Gamora corrects Nebula by clarifying that it"s "Guardians" and not "Gardens", and the cyborg assassin is somewhat embarrassed. While funny, the misunderstanding is kind of odd, making Nebula seem uncharacteristically dumb. That"s probably part of the reason why the line of dialogue was cut, though it"s still immortalized in the trailers. Even "gardener" would have made more sense than "garden".
5 "I have famously huge turds!" Drax, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Drax"s species is incredibly literal, which is often played in the Guardians movies for great humor. However, there are also a few moments where Drax the Destroyer is likely more juvenile than some would like. This includes his comment about how large his turds are in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, extending a poop joke made by Rocket for longer than was probably necessary in the MCU sequel.
4 “I tried so hard to find the form that best suited you...” Ego, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 After the reveal that Ego put the tumor in Meredith Quill"s head that killed her, Star-Lord naturally and justifiably shoots his father with his quad blasters. Angered by his son"s disrespect, Kurt Russel"s Ego reveals that he worked hard to find "a form that best suited Peter". As such, Ego briefly takes the form of David Hasselhoff in connection with Peter"s past where he used to tell kids his dad was the classic Knight Rider/Baywatch actor (before reverting back to Russell).

Posts 2 This makes the line somewhat odd, and it sticks out like a sore thumb when rewatching Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. After all, one could argue that the form that would have suited Quill "best" presumably would have just been Hasselhoff himself. Instead, Ego"s chosen form is a close approximation with Kurt Russell.
3 "I was stabbed you extraordinary phallus!" Adam Warlock, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Having been teased at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, it was 6 years before Adam Warlock finally debuted in the MCU with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. However, the twist was that Will Poulter"s Adam was removed from his birthing cocoon too early by the High Evolutionary. This resulted in the Sovereign warrior being half-baked with an unexpected level of immaturity compared to the classic Warlock seen in the comics.
As such, the depiction is somewhat controversial, especially for those who"d been hoping for a more comic-accurate Adam. Keeping that perspective in mind, the fact that one of Adam"s very first MCU lines is basically a d*** joke is rather unfortunate. However, it does fit with the overall characterization James Gunn decided to go with, providing a more unique and distinct arc for Adam as he grows to become a hero and future member of the Rocket"s new roster of Guardians.
2 "Open the f***ing door!" Star-Lord, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 One of the funniest scenes in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. is Nebula struggling to open the primitive human car door as Star-Lord grows more and more exasperated. After she finally unlocks the door and asks what she should do now, Quill tells Nebula to "Open the f***ing door!" While it"s an absolutely hilarious scene in the PG-13 movie (which are only allowed to have one use of f***), it notably serves as the MCU"s very first uncensored use of the F-word overall.
However, it"s been argued that the MCU"s first "f-bomb" should have been used for some other more momentous occasion (like in Deadpool & Wolverine), rather than Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3"s more innocuous car door scene. It"s also difficult rewatching the scene considering it could have been saved for a far more epic moment in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 itself, such as when Rocket faces the High Evolutionary and embraces his full name from the comics: "The name"s Rocket. Rocket f***ing Raccoon".
1 "Did that look cool?" Star-Lord, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 The last to leave the High Evolutionary"s exploding ship at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Peter Quill gets caught in the cold vacuum of space. It"s very much framed as though he was going to die at the end of the MCU movie, only to be saved by Adam Warlock. His body frozen and face bloated, Peter cheesily asks right away if what just happened "looked cool", having propelled himself far away enough from the blast but not close enough to Knowhere.
As such, it immediately takes the suspense and drama away from whether Peter Quill survived and if Adam made it in time to save the Legendary Star-Lord. Instead, ending the scene after Adam retrieves Quill"s body and then cutting to Peter in recovery sometime later would have been better. It also might have been more believable considering how long Quill was subjected to the average -455°, zero oxygen environment of space.
