DC just revealed the Joker"s daughter is working for Bruce Wayne and now dating Batman"s son in the span of what is perhaps the most surreal 22 minutes that I have seen in 2025 so far. While both Marvel and DC have had their own fair share of weird storylines and twists - especially involving anything to do with relationships - DC has often won the unofficial contest of who can feature the most surprising couple. However, this is generally more a proverbial competition that finds its way into the comics, versus the big or small screen.
2025"s DC releases have already made sure to challenge this idea, though, as the Joker"s daughter dating Batman"s son is the kind of twist that makes something like Killer Croc and Enchantress finding love in the Belle Reve prison seem as if it could perhaps be a conventional romcom plotline comparatively. That said, it"s oddly still a plotline that makes sense for the release it appears in, even if it sets up some seriously weird joint dinners and events for Batman and Joker"s respective families down the line for us to witness.
Joker's Daughter Is Working For Bruce Wayne In DC's Newest Show Close Harley Quinn season 5, episode 5 sees an unusual group brought together for a party held by Bruce Wayne. The event includes Bruce, his son Damian, his butler Alfred, Lois Lane, and Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy, as well as Shaun, one of King Shark"s children who the pair are babysitting. However, perhaps the most notable members of this shindig are that of the Joker himself and his comparatively pretty ordinary stepdaughter, Sophia, who the Joker has built a parental relationship with over the course of the show.
When Bruce is understandably confused that the Joker is among those gathered together, the clown explains that he"s there because his child is interning at Wayne Industries, with Bruce realizing that she"s part of the Wayne Tech For Teens internships the company organizes. While it turns out later that Alfred used this as a ruse to invite the Joker to try and eke out revenge on the villain, it does also serve as a justification for why the Clown Prince of Crime ends up hanging out with the secret identity of his nemesis.
Joker's Daughter Is Also Dating Damian Wayne By The End Of Harley Quinn Season 5 Episode 5 Close Bruce Wayne and the Joker end up with a far closer tie by the end of Harley Quinn season 5, episode 5. The show teases Sophia"s crush on Damian throughout the episode, and this chapter of the show closes with Damian and Sophia revealing they"ve become a couple thanks to the ordeals they went through together throughout the story, with a somewhat horrified Bruce learning this as Damian asks him if his girlfriend and her family - Joker included - can visit for Thanksgiving.
Since the road that leads to this relationship involves a faked murder, the return of the revived Nightwing as Red X, and Alfred revealing he"s gone rogue after being underappreciated by Bruce for so many years, this adds yet another odd event to the episode"s roster, albeit one that is teased to happen from the moment Damian is dumped by Raven towards the plot"s beginning. With Batman now set to potentially spend a lot more time with his most hated enemy, the future of Harley Quinn"s story for the Caped Crusader certainly doesn"t look dull.
Joker's New Ties To Batman Set Up For A Fascinating Future In The DC Show Close The dynamic between Bruce and Joker is already decidedly fascinating - as evidenced by episode 5 itself, wherein we see the Clown Prince Of Crime offer Wayne some surprisingly empathetic advice on how to connect with his family that Bruce uses successfully with both Robin and Nightwing. As such, while adding the Joker and his family into the Wayne family dynamic is sure to add extra chaos to any Harley Quinn stories featuring the characters, perhaps the most bizarre part of this is that it actually seems like it could be less disastrous for the Batfamily than it initially seems.
Harley Quinn season 5 is set to release 5 more episodes weekly until March 20, 2025.
Similarly, since Joker"s family appeared to at least loosely take to villainy when he decided to become a villain again - with Sophia casually asking if he would blow up her coach when he reveals his plans in season 4 - the fact Sophia is interning at Wayne Industries and dating Damian now seems especially notable, and at least a little suspect. With half a season of Harley Quinn season 5 left - and the potential for more still open - there"s a lot of room for this to develop into further surreal story angles only possible in the unhinged animated DC show"s story.
