I’m So Fascinated By WandaVision’s Cut 10th Episode & Why It Was Removed
3 years after
WandaVision concluded on our screens and cemented its status as one of the best superhero shows of all time, I"m still fascinated by what the show"s cut tenth episode could have brought to the series. The MCU was void of definitively canon Marvel shows until WandaVision, with series like Agents of SHIELD still holding a complicated space in the franchise"s history due to conflicts with the main MCU timeline. As such, the spotlight was on WandaVision in a big way to provide a story that showed audiences how exciting the MCU"s TV shows could be.
Mercifully, WandaVision managed to do this and then some, capturing audiences in a fascinating mystery regarding how Wanda"s life had become a stylized sitcom so far from where we last left her - especially since this had also seen Vision brought back to life as the co-star of the series. Along the way to the heartwrenching WandaVision ending, the show had laughs, emotional moments, and a selection of scenes that impacted the overarching franchise in a big way going forward. However, the finale almost looked quite different - namely in that the show came close to closing out with a tenth installment.
There Were Plans For WandaVision To Be 10 Episodes Long It Has Been Confirmed More Than Once That There Were Plans For The Show To Be 10 Episodes Long Close WandaVision"s 9 episode-long run was noted as unusual in its length compared to the conventional 10 episode rosters many are used to - so unusual, in fact, that theories emerged this run order was because there was a secret episode waiting in the wings. While this theory was quickly proved to be untrue, it does make sense that this idea was considered by some viewers, since WandaVision"s story hinged on keeping audiences on their toes and leaving hints that things weren"t quite as they appeared.
In fact, it turned out this theory was in some ways built on a grain of truth, as
there were previously plans for the MCU show to be 10 episodes long. Given how basically every moment of WandaVision was used to its fullest, it"s intriguing to know that the overall plan for the series saw a not insignificant condensing down, which is sure to have had unique impacts on the story and how it unfolded.
Why WandaVision's 10th Episode Was Removed From The Plan WandaVision's Episode Changes Were Done To Try And Ensure The Best Outcome For The Show Close In an interview with Kevin Smith for his podcast Fat Man Beyond on Youtube, WandaVision director and executive producer Matt Shakman delved into specifics regarding the series" finale. Shakman explained that "we also at one point had 10 episodes planned, and
we ended up collapsing a couple - you know, just to make the rhythm feel a little bit better." Show creator Jac Schaeffer"s comments align with this idea, as in an interview with The Q&A with Jeff Goldsmith, she confirmed "WandaVision was originally 10 - then, for logistical, budget, and creative reasons, we combined two episodes."
According to the executive producer, this was reflective of the approach taken with the series more broadly speaking. Shakman states that "things were constantly changing and getting rebroken. The story was changing, especially a lot of the real-world stuff and the finale. There was a lot of experimentation going on and sort of trying different things out." The series being stopped during the pandemic is also referenced as resulting in "further changes" as fresh ideas during post-production led to additional tweaks.
I Think WandaVision Is Great, But I'll Always Wonder How 10 Episodes Could Have Changed It What Ways WandaVision Might Have Been Different With Ten Episodes Is Fascinating To Think About Close With so much of the show relying on the pacing with which the mystery of the series - and the tragedy that"s unveiled as questions are answered - I think focusing on streamlining the overall experience in this way makes sense, especially if other factors like budget were at play too. However, it"s undeniable that the what if scenario here is still fascinating for what it suggests.
Another full episode would presumably have given WandaVision an extra thirty to fifty minutes of time, opening up the doorway for storylines to get further screentime, and for characters to get more of a moment in the sun. This is especially interesting given that plot elements like Evan Peters" Quicksilver not being Quicksilver at all or the narrative with White Vision were played off relatively quickly, which potentially wouldn"t have been the case had it been decided this extra window of time should be utilized.
It"s also worth noting that in Jac Schaeffer"s interview with The Q&A with Jeff Goldsmith, she also alludes to a different scene being initially planned for WandaVision"s final post-credits scene, stating "You know how Strange can do those circles around someone, and make them go somewhere? The circle starts around her, like she’s going to be teleported somewhere, and she stops it, so Strange has to show up in person." It"s possible moments like this and other deleted scenes from
WandaVision may have cropped up if the 10 episode plan had come to fruition, leaving the concept an eternally intriguing idea.

7/10 23 9.1/10 WandaVision WandaVision, the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first TV show on Disney+, first aired in 2021. The series kicked off the MCU’s Phase 4 and brought back Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff, aka the Scarlet Witch, and Paul Bettany as Vision. WandaVision strayed away from Marvel’s typical formula, this time formatting itself more like a classic sitcom as Wanda struggles to cope with the death of Vision.
