The MCU Now Has Two Wolverine Replacements I Actually Want To Return More Than Hugh Jackman"s Original

Following the finale of What If...? season 3, there are now two Wolverine variants in the MCU that I would love to see return more than Hugh Jackman"s original clawed X-Men hero. What If...?"s three seasons introduced a plethora of wild variants to the MCU, though I still reckon the animated series only scratched the surface of what the multiverse has to offer. The final moments of What If...? season 3, episode 8, "What If... What If?," provided a glimpse of what we could have had, and introduced another Wolverine variant.
James "Logan" Howlett"s Wolverine is one of the most iconic and beloved members of Marvel Comics" X-Men, and he became even more prevalent when Hugh Jackman brought the mutant into live-action in 2000"s X-Men. Ever since Disney"s acquisition of 20th Century Fox was finalized in 2019, I"ve been involved in speculation about who will be cast as Wolverine in the MCU, even though we"ve now seen Hugh Jackman reprise the role. Marvel Studios has now presented two possibilities that I would love to see.
The MCU Faces A Major Issue In Replacing Hugh Jackman's Wolverine Hugh Jackman Has Played Wolverine For 24 Years Close Hugh Jackman has become synonymous with the role of Wolverine, and his return in 2024"s Deadpool & Wolverine alongside Ryan Reynolds" Merc with a Mouth, even though he played a variant of his original X-Men franchise hero, has cemented this fact. Many would be upset to see Jackman replaced with a new actor as Wolverine, though I think this is exactly what the MCU is demanding. Jackman is 56 years old, so, while Deadpool may joke about him sticking round till he"s 90, he may be ready to hang up the adamantium claws.

When finding a new actor to take over from Hugh Jackman, however, Marvel Studios must choose very carefully. Jackman is leaving huge shoes to fill, particularly after portraying the iconic Marvel hero in eleven feature films spanning 24 years. I"ve loved seeing names such as Taron Egerton, Daniel Radcliffe and Zac Efron pop up, though it"s still unclear what direction Marvel Studios might take with Wolverine in the MCU"s upcoming X-Men reboot and beyond. While recasting Hugh Jackman may take some time, I"d love to see the MCU"s two other Wolverine variants return in Phase 6.
Henry Cavill's Wolverine Variant Was 2024's Coolest Moment Deadpool & Wolverine Debuted A Brand-New Wolverine Actor

For 24 years, Hugh Jackman and, briefly in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Troye Sivan were the only actors to ever portray Wolverine in live-action. Deadpool & Wolverine changed this, however, and I was one of many who were shocked to see former Superman actor Henry Cavill make his MCU debut as a variant of Wolverine. Cavill"s appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine contributed to one of the most memorable MCU moments not just in 2024, but in the franchise"s entire history, but he didn"t get a lot of explanation or development in the Phase 5 movie.
While I"m of the opinion that Henry Cavill should not be cast as the MCU"s official version of Wolverine, I would love to see his version of the clawed mutant get more development before the Multiverse Saga comes to an end. Phase 6"s Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars could bring back Henry Cavill"s Wolverine, who was affectionately dubbed "the Cavillrine" by Deadpool. I am desperate for this more-gruff and hardened version of Wolverine receive more attention, but he"s not the only version of the hero I want to see return.
What If...? Introduced Another Wolverine Variant I Want To See In Secret Wars What If...? Debuted The Wildest Wolverine Variant In The MCU's History

What If...? season 3 waited until the very last moment to bring its own version of Wolverine into the MCU, as the flashes of unused variants from across the multiverse in the series finale"s final moments included a character combining Wolverine with the Mad Titan, Thanos. Nothing is known about this variant, or if Marvel Animation actually had plans to include him in What If...?. It"s not known how Thanos would become Wolverine, or whether he"d be a villain or a hero, which makes me even more intrigued to see more of this outlandish Wolverine variant.

Posts Whether Hugh Jackman returns to the MCU in Avengers: Secret Wars or not - this still hasn"t been confirmed - I would love to see either the Cavillrine or the Thanosverine make their mark on the MCU. I consider it a crime that Thanos" Wolverine didn"t get any development in What If...?, but I reckon the multiverse-spanning storyline of Avengers: Secret Wars presents the perfect opportunity for him to be explored in more detail. I"m annoyed What If...? didn"t do more to expand on this exciting Wolverine variant, but Marvel Studios can still solve this issue.
