Predicting MCU’s Updated Multiverse Saga Slate (After Delays)

All signs point to more delays coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which means the Multiverse Saga slate of movies and shows could change release dates. Marvel Studios officially unveiled their plans for the Multiverse Saga at San Diego Comic-Con 2022, revealing over a dozen projects that would release in Phases 4, 5, and 6. That initial Multiverse Saga announcement has already changed multiple times in less than a year, as there have been MCU movie and show delays during that time, while other projects have shifted release dates. Now that Phase 5 is in motion, the likelihood of more MCU delays keeps rising.
There have been various pieces of news that point to Marvel Studios altering their release plans for the remainder of the Multiverse Saga. It has been stated that the MCU Disney+ shows will slow down the speed at which they are released. This is not only meant to help avoid superhero fatigue but also to help improve VFX in all Marvel projects. With Disney even potentially reconsidering the types of MCU movies they make after a few films underperformed at the box office based on Marvel's track record, here is our prediction for what the Multiverse Saga movies and shows' release date slate could look like after more delays.
Guardians of the Galaxy 3 & The Marvels Should Keep Current Release Dates Whatever delays do come to the Multiverse Saga movies and shows, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and The Marvels' release dates should not be affected. James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is quickly approaching its May 2023 release date, and there is no time for Marvel to change course. Considering how long the film has been in development and the director's proven filmography, there is faith that the trilogy capper will be a thrilling and emotional final film for the original Guardians team.
The Marvels is one of the MCU Phase 5 movies that have already experienced a delay since the initial Multiverse Saga announcement. Marvel pushed back the film from July 2023 to November 2023. This will give audiences plenty of time to see Guardians of the Galaxy 3 in May and then (hopefully) become ready to see a new MCU movie again six months later. Since Marvel Studios has officially kicked off The Marvels' marketing campaign with a fun first trailer, the November release should not change.
Secret Invasion, Loki Season 2, & Echo Might Be 2023’s Disney+ Shows Marvel Studios slowing down its output of Disney+ shows per year will dramatically change the Multiverse Saga slate. After originally announcing that five live-action shows would release in 2023, it appears most likely that only three will arrive. After originally having a Spring 2023 release announced, Secret Invasion is officially set for a June 21, 2023 release date on Disney+. The six-episode series should run until the end of July. The Disney+ schedule and not wanting new MCU and Star Wars shows to release at the same time should then mean that Loki season 2 arrives sometime in September or October - after Ahsoka season 1 finishes.
The wildcard for the MCU's Disney+ schedule at this point in the Multiverse Saga is Echo. The series was originally announced for a summer 2023 release, but there have been several reports about it being delayed. The biggest question is how long the delay will last, as some reports have pointed to a 2024 release, while Echo's cast and crew have still hinted at a late 2023 release. Assuming Star Wars: Skeleton Crew releases in October/November after Loki season 2, then Marvel Studios could still begin streaming Echo in December, even if it runs into early 2024.
2024’s MCU Movies Will Not Change The MCU's Multiverse Saga delays should not impact the 2024 movies too greatly. Captain America: New World Order has a May 2024 release date and is already in production. Thunderbolts is set for July 2024, Blade was delayed to September 2024, and Deadpool 3 is set for November 2024. All three are scheduled to begin filming during the summer of 2023, giving each plenty of time to hit those specific release dates. If for some reason Disney's new Marvel movie release strategy includes capping the MCU's film output at three per year, the most likely change would be Blade shifting to November 2024 and Deadpool 3 moving to February 2025.
Ironheart, Daredevil: Born Again, & Agatha Could Be 2024’s Disney+ Shows The MCU shows that release on Disney+ in 2024 could be a mixture of the original plans and a few delays. Ironheart was originally announced with a fall 2023 release, but reports have circulated that it will now arrive in 2024 instead. There is an opening in this predicted MCU's Multiverse Saga slate for Ironheart to stream from February to March 2024. With an 18-episode first season, it is likely that Daredevil: Born Again will release in multiple parts throughout the year, such as part one in March/April and part two in September/October. Viewers could then be treated to Agatha: Coven of Chaos in June 2024.
Armor Wars & Spider-Man 4 Added To 2025 MCU Slate This predicted MCU Multiverse Saga slate is adding two more movies to the 2025 slate. Marvel Studios has only confirmed that Fantastic 4 and Avengers: The Kang Dynasty are releasing in 2025, in February and May respectively. Fantastic 4 could move from February to May for reasons discussed later, even if Deadpool 3 does not take its original release date. Marvel and Sony's Spider-Man 4, possibly with Daredevil and Kingpin, should be ready to go by July 2025. Meanwhile, the Armor Wars movie starring War Machine could finally come in November 2025.
What Marvel’s 2025 Disney+ Shows Could Be Marvel Studios has yet to officially announce any MCU shows for 2025 releases, but at least two or three live-action series are expected to arrive that year. Wonder Man is the safest bet to arrive here, as filming has already started as of April 2023, allowing a March/April 2025 release to be easily achieved. Meanwhile, Marvel could look to keep using Kamala Khan and announce Ms. Marvel season 2 for August 2025. This could also be the year that Vision Quest releases as Marvel continues to spin off content from WandaVision. A December 2025 release for Vision Quest that goes into the next year could work.
Doctor Strange 3, Shang-Chi 2, & World War Hulk Can Release In 2026 The Multiverse Saga slate only has Avengers: Secret Wars set for a 2026 release date, but there are other untitled Marvel movies with release dates set for that year too. This prediction suggests that Doctor Strange 3 will happen as a more direct lead-in to the Avengers' conflict with Kang, and that it will occupy the May 2026 release date currently occupied by Avengers: Secret Wars. The proposed move would then allow Shang-Chi 2 to release in July 2026, while the long-rumored World War Hulk movie might be allowed to finally happen legally by September or November 2026.
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty & Avengers: Secret Wars Will Be Delayed Too This Multiverse Saga release date prediction means that Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars will be delayed too. The films are currently set for May releases in 2025 and 2026, but Marvel has already shown that it is still figuring out exactly when and where they should come after delaying Secret Wars from its original November 2025 release date. The proposal that Marvel Studios needs to slow down also means the movies and shows need to take more time properly building up to the long-awaited Avengers films. Delaying Avengers: The Kang Dynasty until May 2027 could make that possible.
Avengers: Secret Wars' release date could then be delayed to May 2028. While these moves would result in a two-year delay for both films, this is the decision that makes the most sense for the franchise. Furthermore, it allows Avengers: Secret Wars - which is expected to be a multiversal celebration of Marvel Studios' projects and all Marvel movies - to release days after the 20-year anniversary of Iron Man and the official start of the MCU.
