Ant-Man 3 Deleted Scene Changed The Fate Of A Controversial Cameo Character

Bill Murray's Krylar almost had a very different fate in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Marvel Studios kicked off MCU Phase 5 with the Peyton Reed-directed trilogy capper, which saw Team Ant-Man going up against Kang the Conqueror. It also introduced several new characters, including Janet van Dyne's old Quantum Realm colleague — Krylar.
Despite the interest in Murray's MCU stint, Krylar's role in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was rather small and brief. He ended up getting killed not long after he was introduced, but Katy O'Brien, who played Jentorra, tells Inverse that he almost had a very different fate in the threequel. Read it below:

I had a couple fight scenes that got cut out and there were a couple moments with Bill Murray. Instead of just getting killed, he did a whole space pursuit with them and then wound up with Kang and got arrested or something. It was a lot. It would've been like a three-hour movie.
They took him to jail and then he had some really cute little jail clips, and then I helped bust him out, and then he pretends that he's with me the whole time and ready to fight. And I'm like, “Bro, come on.”
That's mostly what I remember. But they were adding stuff to the script until the last day of shooting. So there was so much stuff that I think got cut in the end.

Why Bill Murray's Krylar Dying Is Better For Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania

Krylar's death came not long after he was introduced in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Janet thought that she could ask him for help to get away from Kang and safely leave the Quantum Realm, not realizing that he had sold her and her family out of the Conqueror. Thankfully, they were able to escape just before they were cornered, but doing that meant Krylar died during the scuffle.
While it is disappointing that Marvel Studios never got to fully capitalize on Murray's involvement, Krylar dying when he did makes more sense. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was already criticized for a packed third act. Including Jentorra's run-in with Krylar would have made things worse for the film. At the very least, Murray's death was somehow memorable, especially since it also gave Hank Pym a chance to show off some of his superhero capabilities as the original Ant-Man.
Killing Krylar also saved Marvel Studios from the pressure to reincorporate him in future Quantum Realm storylines. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania already ditched several prominent players from its own franchise, including Luis, Ghost, and Laurence Fishburne's Bill Foster. Unless the MCU has specific plans for Krylar, it was for the best that his role in the franchise ended in the threequel.
