Superman & Lois Actor Addresses Brainiac Introduction & How He Features In The DC Show"s Final Episodes

WARNING: This article includes SPOILERS from Superman & Lois season 4, episode 8.With Superman & Lois season 4 nearing its end, the DC TV show"s payoff for its Brainiac teases is addressed by Lex Luthor himself. As the Arrowverse is entering its final weeks on The CW, the last season of Superman & Lois has been putting the Man of Steel through not just a battle with Doomsday and a war with Lex Luthor, but also the possibility of another iconic villain entering the series. The Superman & Lois season 4 story is now closer than ever to introducing Brainiac following the on-screen debut of a very crucial character.
Milton Fine made his Arrowverse debut in Superman & Lois season 4, episode 8, and ScreenRant caught up with Michael Cudlitz, who not only plays Lex Luthor but directed this episode, featuring Riverdale"s Nikolai Witschl as the famous DC villain. When asked about Superman & Lois season 4 being closer than ever to Brainiac and how Milton Fine factors into the final episodes, Cudlitz looked back on casting Witschl as Milton and what fans can look forward to in the remaining episodes:
Nikolai Witschl was wonderful. What was exciting about casting him was, this was the first time we had in-person auditions since COVID. I was going through the tapes of everybody, seeing everybody on tape, and there were a couple of people who I really liked for the role, when we were open to really any direction. So we cast a really wide net while initially looking, and when I saw him, there was just something about him that really drew me to his performance, and I wanted to see everybody, if I could work with them for a little bit. They said, "Oh my gosh, we haven"t had in-person sessions since before COVID. But yeah, we can try to figure something out." And I brought back four actors, and they were all so excited to be in the room, as was I.
To just get back to normal - it"s crazy, we are four-five years after the initial beginning of COVID. And we"re just now still getting back into the room and doing things for the first time again that we hadn"t done in five years. To be able to work with the actors and play around in the room was really fantastic. Ultimately, [Nikolai] was great, we played around a little bit. I knew he was my choice, and all I had to do is go through approval with our showrunners, and ultimately the studio confirms that we can hire them. But I got who I wanted, and he"s a lot of fun. I think the fans are going to really enjoy what he has to bring for the rest of the season.
What Michael Cudlitz's Brainiac Comments Mean For Superman & Lois Season 4 Close From Cudlitz"s story about casting Witschl as Milton Fine, it"s clear that the Superman & Lois creative team planned to have him be a vital part of the season this whole time. Having Cudlitz, who serves as the final actor to play a big bad in Superman & Lois, being involved in the casting process for Milton is also very fitting, given that he is part of Lex"s overall story. For an episode that was also so heavily focused on Lex, Superman & Lois season 4, episode 8 organically made Milton"s introduction fit the overall story.
Even though it is disappointing that Superman & Lois season 4 is the show"s last, the fact that The CW drama is able to include this many iconic Superman stories and villains in one season is very impressive. Superman & Lois season 4"s Brainiac tease could have easily felt very out of place, but instead, the writers found an organic way to make it fit with this take on the Man of Steel"s mythology. It"s also fascinating to see a different take on Milton in general, as he hasn"t been used in live-action since Smallville, when James Marsters played a unique version of the character before he was revealed to be Brainiac.
Our Take On Michael Cudlitz's Brainiac Comments Based on Cudlitz"s reaction to landing the actor he wanted for Milton Fine, it will be exciting to see how this will lead to Superman & Lois season 4"s adaptation of Brainiac, as there are a lot of directions they could go with him. Given how the writers have tackled Lex and Doomsday with a few twists along the way, that is bound to happen with Brainiac, too. But for now, the world will have to watch the final two episodes of Superman & Lois season 4 to see how this saga comes to an end.
New episodes of Superman & Lois season 4 air Monday nights at 8/7c on The CW.
