Barry Keoghan Gives Definitive Joker Update On Whether He"d Return For The Batman 2
While audiences wait to learn what is in store for
The Batman - Part II, one of the DC villains in the Robert Pattinson-starring franchise discusses the prospect of his return. As Colin Farrell"s The Penguin is confirmed to appear in The Batman - Part II, many are also wondering what will become of the Joker in The Batman universe. Though he had a brief but extremely memorable debut in 2022"s The Batman, fans may have to wait longer for the foe"s next appearance in Matt Reeves" franchise.
Appearing recently as the featured guest on Happy, Sad, Confused,
Barry Keoghan was asked about his future with The Batman franchise after making his debut during the 2022 film. As much as he hopes to come back as the Clown Prince of Crime, Keoghan gave the following response about his potential next chapter as Joker:
It"s a big one, but I am going to say that, if the opportunity came about, yes, I"d love to explore, and given the opportunity, really dive into it. But I have not been contacted, I"ve not heard anything.
What Barry Keoghan's Joker Comments Mean For The Batman - Part II Close There are a number of ways to interpret Keoghan"s latest Joker update,
as there could be several things that are happening with the character in regards to The Batman - Part II. One possibility is that there are plans for the Joker to appear in the sequel, and that Keoghan could well be contacted before filming is reportedly set to begin in early 2025. It could simply be a matter of contracts not being signed yet for him to be part of The Batman - Part II cast.
However, there is also the possibility that Keoghan isn"t going to be in The Batman - Part II at all, as Reeves could be looking to have a different Batman villain as the main threat. Reeves spoke about the difficulty of The Batman"s Joker and how it is important for them to find an angle and depiction of the character that hasn"t already been explored in other live-action properties. If they haven"t gotten past that obstacle yet, they may have to bench Joker for the time being as they continue to build out the rest of The Batman universe.
Our Take On Barry Keoghan's Joker Comments
While it is positive to hear that Keoghan is still really excited to continue exploring Joker in Reeves" The Batman universe, it is not going to hurt the franchise if he doesn"t get to be the central antagonist in a future sequel. There are a lot of Batman villains who have yet to even get remotely half the spotlight that Joker has had in various Batman movies and TV shows throughout the decade. Hopefully, as 2024 closes out, further news will be announced about
The Batman - Part II.
