Agatha All Along Showrunner Breaks Down Episode 7"s Big Twist & Teases The MCU Show Finale

WARNING: This article includes SPOILERS from Agatha All Along, episode 7.The Agatha All Along creator shares the background of the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe twist in the Disney+ series and what to expect from the finale. As 2024 is nearing its end, so is the latest MCU TV show, with Marvel Studios currently taking Agatha Harkness down the Witches" Road in Agatha All Along. With only two episodes remaining of the Phase 5 installment, Agatha All Along is getting ready to unleash its remaining challenges on Kathryn Hahn"s fan-favorite character.
Agatha All Along, much like WandaVision, is full of surprises, as the show recently revealed that Joe Locke"s "Teen" is none other than Billy Maximoff, a.k.a. Wiccan. However, the fun doesn"t stop there as another major character reveal was brewing for Agatha All Along episode 7. Throughout the story, the MCU audience learned that Aubrey Plaza"s Green Witch is actually a major player from the world of Marvel Comics.

Following the Agatha All Along episode 7 ending, ScreenRant caught up with Jac Schaeffer to get into the details of Rio Vidal"s massive Marvel identity reveal as the release gets closer for the final two episodes. Throughout the interview, Schaeffer teases what fans can look forward to in the Agatha All Along finale, the extension of her WandaVision work with Agatha"s spinoff series, and the future for some of these characters. Schaeffer also give her thoughts on if she would have an idea or two for a potential Scarlet Witch movie.
Jac Schaeffer Breaks Down Big Twists In Agatha All Along Close ScreenRant: Can you talk about the decision to turn Death into the original Green Witch, almost like Shiva, both a destroyer and a creator?
Jac Schaeffer: Yes, Andy, you"re speaking my language. You understand our show! I love that. When we came up with the idea of incorporating Lady Death into the show, we did want to make her our own, and we were already playing in this pool of witches. What does it mean to be a witch? Thinking about ritual creation, the divine feminine of the witchcraft space, and so thinking of Lady Death as not being just about death, not just being about really destruction at all, that she is about the Twin Flames of birth and death. That it"s really sort of the natural cycle of growth and decay. That felt so right for this idea of the original Green Witch. I don"t know if you just looked at her costume and intuited that, but you"re on the right track! [laughs]
How much fun did Aubrey Plaza have with the secret of her character"s real identity? Suddenly, it makes a lot of sense why Thanos was happy about courting Death. In my mind, he"s a secret Parks and Rec fan, just going to put that in the canon now.
Jac Schaeffer: I mean, who isn"t a Parks and Rec fan? I would like to think she had an incredible time. It certainly looked like she had an incredible time being Rio and Death. Yeah, we had such high hopes for this character, and Aubrey exceeded every single one of them. She"s so perfect for this role, and brought the exact right amount of chaos and feral sexy energy that we needed for the show.
Is Lilia"s final warning to Agatha about Rio a sign that she might be coming back? Or do her powers of foresight operate differently to the Ancient One who couldn"t see past her death?
Jac Schaeffer: Please see future episodes!
Jac Schaeffer On The Coven's Hypothetical Ties To The Infinity Stones Image via Disney+ Have you seen the theory that each witch of the coven is linked to Infinity Stone powers? The colors are obviously loaded with meaning in the MCU.
Jac Schaeffer: Yes, I mean, everything is loaded inside of the Marvel Universe. I actually hadn"t seen that theory. I will say that the color story of the show was an enormous and ongoing conversation. So many colors are spoken for in the MCU, so we had to figure out what shades of things to do, so that it felt specific to the witch, but didn"t step on anybody else"s power toes. So that is sort of a larger Marvel-sanctioned conversation that we had to have.
The show has touched upon a lot with Wanda and is obviously now exploring Billy. Is there anything you can share about what your original plans were for Vision"s story after WandaVision, and was that something that was going to maybe get a little bit addressed, either on Agatha All Along or in the Vision show when you were still working on it?
Jac Schaeffer: You asked that in such a courteous way, and I so appreciate that. But I can"t speak to any of that. That show is in the hands of really talented people, and I wish them well.
Jac Schaeffer On Her Vision For A Scarlet Witch Movie After Agatha All Along "There are a million ideas for all of these fabulous people." I know you are always asked if a Scarlet Witch movie is happening, but let me flip it a little bit. Do you have an idea in your mind what a Scarlet Witch project would look like after Agatha All Along if she comes back from the dead?
Jac Schaeffer: These characters are so alive for me, I can imagine a million things. They just are so full and that is so much because of the actors that play them and how capable they are and how special they are. Also, because of the writers that I work with and the ideas that they have and the worlds that they build. So, yeah, there are a million ideas for all of these fabulous people.
As we head into this two-part finale, does it give us a good idea where Agatha and some of these other characters may show up next?
Jac Schaeffer: I think I won"t say anything, because the finale is on deck, and I think that"s sort of the focus and I want to let viewers see where this story lands.
Jac Schaeffer On Billy Maximoff's Potential Future With Young Avengers I want to talk about my new Gay icon, which is Billy Maximoff; I love Joe Locke so much that I have to ask; everyone always has their theories of what happens with Billy Maximoff next. The question of Marvel"s Young Avengers is always brought up, and as someone who has spent a lot of time with MCU, is that a team that you would like to tackle next? Do you have an idea in your mind of what you would do with this specific team from the Marvel Comics universe?
Jac Schaeffer: I don"t have anything for that, but I love those characters, and really, I love the actors. I just think if Young Avengers were to happen like, man, that is a murderer"s row. It would be great.
What is your future looking like right now with Marvels - I"m not going to put you in front of the Marvel snipers. But do you have something that you"re cooking, that you hopefully can announce in a couple of months?
Jac Schaeffer: I can"t really answer that at this point. I"m so sorry.
Jac Schaeffer On The Agatha All Along Finale & Musical Teases "I knew for a fact that show would get inside everybody's brains and hearts." What are some things that our readers at Screen Rant should be looking forward to the most in this finale? Can you give us some teases without spoiling too much, obviously?
Jac Schaeffer: I think that viewers seem to have really attached emotionally to these characters, so I would hope that they feel how much we love them, and that we"re hurtling toward a finish [line] that hopefully services all of these arcs that we"ve set up. So yeah, it"s hopefully gonna get exciting.
Maybe any more musical elements in these two remaining episodes? Because the music has been so good on the show. Have you just seen how "Down the Witches" Road" has exploded on social media? There"s now remixes with Lady Gaga!
Jac Schaeffer: I know! I"ve seen quite a bit of it. I wish I could be say I"m surprised, but I"m not - because it"s the Lopezs, y"all! It"s the Lopezs, it"s Kathryn Hahn, and it"s Patti LuPone. I didn"t know what would happen with this show or how it"d be received, but I knew for a fact that show would get inside everybody"s brains and hearts, and it"s been really fun to see the dancing, especially, I love the dancing, [it is] so great!
I fell in love with the Agatha All Along song from WandaVision, and by now, we"re seven episodes in, and we haven"t heard it. Have you been tempted to be like, "Should we fire this up one more time?"
Jac Schaeffer: If you listen to the score, she pops up a little bit in the score. Christophe Beck returned from WandaVision, and especially in episode one, where she goes through all of her costumes, that"s the Agatha All Along score that we"re hearing there. So we made sure that melody was featured in sneaky ways.
Is it fun for you to see all these years later how the culture you"ve created in the MCU has become part of this fandom?
Jac Schaeffer: Yeah, it"s amazing. I really didn"t anticipate that WandaVision would be embraced the way it has been. It"s a beautiful thing, I feel very lucky.
