The DC Universe’s Newest Season 2 Update Proves To Me It’ll Avoid A Major MCU Mistake

The DC Universe’s most recent Creature Commandos update bodes well for the studio if they want to avoid one major MCU mistake. Television shows have become an integral part of superhero franchises since the form of media offers what films can’t. With multiple episodes spanning a season, there is more time to expand on a concept. Some of DC and Marvel’s most successful recent projects have been television shows such as The Penguin and Agatha All Along, since they allow for experimental creativity that studios might not want to risk in their big films.
An excellent show can help alleviate the superhero fatigue that some fans feel, but it’s important that the studio follows up on the success. The MCU’s television run started off with some hugely popular shows like WandaVision and The Falcon & The Winter Soldier, but they suffered early on because every show ran as a standalone series without the follow-up of a second season. The studio learned their lesson and started implementing a multi-season model, but it seems like the DCU will be able to avoid this mistake completely.
The DC Universe's First Season 2 Is Already On The Way Close Max renewed Creature Commandos just weeks after the first season premiered, meaning that season 1 was likely made with a follow-up in mind. Since then, the show’s most recent update leaves fans with hope that season 2 will premiere in the next few years. In an interview with The Direct, Creature Commandos showrunner Dean Lorey confirmed that season 2 of the show is currently underway and going smoothly. The season is still in the early days of production, but according to Lorey, progress even seems to be moving along at a quick pace.
The studio clearly had confidence that season 1 would do well, which it did with a 95% from critics and an 81% from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes. Considering that Creature Commandos is the first official project in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s revamped DC Universe, it’s an impressive feat that it was renewed for a second season so quickly. The DCU is only just beginning, yet it seems like the studio is already nailing their television model.

Perhaps the DCU learned from the MCU’s television mistake in running a standalone series, and they were keen to avoid it with the early renewal of their first and only show so far. It may not seem like every series requires a second season, but the point of television should be to utilize multiple seasons. DCU fans could enjoy the last few episodes of Creature Commandos knowing that they would be getting more content in the foreseeable future, while MCU fans were just left with unanswered questions.
