Superman Movie Trailer Release Gets First Update In 9 Months From James Gunn

At New York Comic Con, James Gunn has offered an update on the progress of Superman (2025), his take on how great new Man of Steel actor David Corenswet is, and teased when DC fans can expect the first trailer. It"s been a long road to Superman"s DCU reboot after the end of the DCEU, but with the July 2025 release date coming over the horizon and the first DCU release - Creature Commandos - less than 2 months away, pre-marketing has already begun.
Gunn appeared alongside his Creature Commandos cast for a panel at NYCC - which ScreenRant"s Molly Freeman was in attendance for - and first took the opportunity to heap praise on his Superman lead, David Corenswet:
"The movie is going extraordinarily well. We"re deep in the process of editing. David Corenswet is going to blow people the f*ck away. He is the movie star that everyone just dreams he could possibly be. I don"t think anyone understands the depth of this guy"s talent - dramatically, comedically - he"s the best physical action star I"ve ever worked with probably except for.... [protests from the group on stage] Frank [Grillo]... and Rachel Brosnahan, people are going to die for her as Lois...
Gunn then moved on to discuss the progress of Superman, which wrapped filming at the end of July, and teased when fans can expect to see the hotly anticipated first trailer:
It"s been a great process. The edit is getting really close to being good. The movie"s good. I feel good about it. [When pressed about whether he has footage with him or a trailer] Don"t get too excited... There"s no trailer, no Superman trailer. I have some stuff on my phone. I had it taken off me in case people attacked me... It won"t be too long until we see a trailer, but it"s also not going to be too soon."
What James Gunn's Superman Updates Mean For The DCU Could The Trailer Land Before The End Of 2024? First and foremost, the suggestion that it "won"t be too long" before the first Superman trailer is released is big news, even with the caveat that it won"t be "too soon". That very much feels like Gunn tempering expectations of an imminent release, but his comments on how close the edit is to a completed form are still telling. The director previously enigmatically answered a question on Threads from a fan on whether we should expect a trailer before the end of the year with a thinking emoji, prompting the inevitable rounds of speculation.
