Shazam Actor Zachary Levi Addresses His DC Future After Fury Of The Gods

Shazam! Fury of the Gods star Zachary Levi has spoken out about his potential future in James Gunn's rebooted DCU. Just a few weeks before the Shazam! sequel hits theaters on March 17th, it still remains unclear how exactly Levi's boisterous superhero will factor into the new plans for DC's cinematic universe, now headed up by James Gunn and Peter Safran. Although certain other heroes, most notably Henry Cavill's Superman and Dwayne Johnson's Black Adam, have been definitely scrubbed from Gunn's new DC franchise, the fate of Shazam and his cast of supporting characters has yet to be definitively confirmed.
Following on the heels of Fury of the Gods director David F. Sandberg's comments regarding Shazam's future in the DCU, Zachary Levi added his own perspective to the debate. In speaking with Entertainment Tonight, the actor had this to say about his possible return:
"Listen, I've talked to Peter [Safran] a good bit, we're gonna talk more on this tour. Certainly, the idea is to continue the character, this world. It's a really enjoyable extension of the DCU. It has DNA that a lot of the other characters and extensions don't necessarily have because we are a more family [movie]... [That] kind of franchise comes with a lot of fun. It's a throwback to... stuff like Goonies and Indiana Jones and all those things that evoke that kind of adventure in you."
Levi's comments indicate that, while his potential return has not yet been set in stone with DC Studios, the current plan is to indeed feature the character in upcoming projects. This backs up James Gunn's earlier claims that Shazam! and Fury of the Gods will factor into the DCU. This news certainly bodes well for Levi's future in the franchise, though DC's track record certainly proves that anything is subject to change.
