I Can"t Believe Sony"s Spider-Man Universe Ended Just After It Made The 1 Movie We"ve Been Waiting 6 Years For Possible

Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Kraven the Hunter
It took Sony"s Spider-Man Universe more than six years to set up its promised crossover movie, Sinister Six, and by then it was already too late for the Marvel villain team-up film. Sony"s Sinister Six movie had been in the works since before The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hit theaters in 2014. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 introduced multiple villains and teased the eventual introduction of several more, and it went so far as to add a credits tease of Sony"s original Sinister Six line-up: Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Rhino, Vulture, Kraven the Hunter, and Mysterio.
Sony"s first plans for a Sinister Six movie fell through when The Amazing Spider-Man 2 failed to meet expectations. Ten years later, Morbius, Madame Web, and Kraven the Hunter"s abysmal reviews and poor box office results seem to have forced Sony to put its Marvel movie franchise, "Sony"s Spider-Man Universe", on indefinite hold. Sony"s second attempt at a Sinister Six movie once again fell through. What"s worse, the SSU"s Sinister Six was only beginning to take shape in Kraven the Hunter.
Kraven The Hunter Set Up An Animal-Themed Sinister Six Kraven The Hunter Set Up The Sinister Six Movie's Line-Up Close In Kraven the Hunter, Aleksei Sytsevich is able to transform into the hulking Rhino by removing the serum that keeps his power in check. According to Aleksei, a doctor in New York healed his chronic illness, but gave him this monstrous side effect in the process. Likewise, Kraven"s brother Dmitri reached out to the same doctor in Kraven the Hunter"s ending, developing shapeshifting abilities that earned him the nickname of "Chameleon". The doctor that gives Rhino and Chameleon their powers is Miles Warren a.k.a. the Jackal, who also transforms into an anthropomorphic animal in the comics.
Morbius and Vulture"s animal theme could have also landed them a spot in the SSU"s Sinister Six team
Venom, Morbius, and Kraven have little in common in Sony"s Spider-Man Universe, and they have no Spider-Man to fight together. The Jackal"s introduction, on the other hand, connects several superhumans with sinister motivations to each other. Both Rhino and Chameleon want power after spending their whole lives feeling weaker than the regular human. In a hypothetical future installment, Dr. Miles Warren could have brought together four other patients with the same motivations and created a team of animal-themed supervillains. This team could have been composed of Rhino, Chameleon, the Lizard, Vermin, Man-Wolf, and Sauron, for example.
Sony’s Spider-Man Universe Took Too Long To Make Good Use Of Its Source Material Sony's Spider-Man Universe Could Have Started Laying The Foundations For Its Sinister Six Much Earlier Custom Image by Nicolas Ayala A big complaint about Venom, Morbius, and Madame Web, was its disappointing number of well-known Marvel characters. Villains like Riot, Milo, and Ezekiel Sims apparently weren"t captivating enough to warrant their own stories, so Sony"s Spider-Man Universe spent over six years focusing on characters that didn"t capture audiences" attention like other anti-heroes and villains could have. It wasn"t until Kraven the Hunter that Sony"s Spider-Man Universe started to introduce high-profile Spider-Man enemies like Rhino and Chameleon. Unfortunately, Kraven the Hunter tapped into the source material too late.

Posts If Kraven the Hunter had been released as early as Venom, it might not have been affected by the franchise"s poor word-of-mouth, and its Sinister Six set-ups could have been developed in subsequent installments. Instead of resorting to lesser-known characters like El Muerto and Hypno Hustler for future projects, Sony could have fast-tracked spinoff movies for Rhino, Chameleon, and other potential animal-themed Sinister Six members like the Lizard and Man-Wolf.
Sony’s Sinister Six Had Its Spider-Man Replacement All Along Kraven The Hunter Could Have Been The Sinister Six's Enemy in Sony's Spider-Man Universe Custom Image By Simone Ashmoore Another big question regarding Sony"s Spider-Man Universe"s Sinister Six was their antagonist, as the team is always formed to fight Spider-Man in the comics. With no Spider-Man in the SSU and most SSU characters becoming anti-heroes instead of villains, Sony"s Sinister Six had even less of a reason to join forces. However, if Sony"s Sinister Six were an animal-themed team assembled by Dr. Miles Warren, then their ideal enemy could have been Aaron Taylor-Johnson"s Kraven the Hunter — an animal-hunting anti-hero who earned his nickname from his quest to kill criminals like the Rhino.
Kraven"s refusal to hurt his own brother would have added an extra layer of conflict to Sony"s Sinister Six movie.
Kraven the Hunter"s role as the Sinister Six"s enemy in Sony"s Spider-Man Universe could have done justice to Kraven"s most popular comic book storyline, Kraven"s Last Hunt. Although Kraven likely wouldn"t have met Spider-Man in Sinister Six, he could have developed the same obsession with hunting increasingly dangerous targets that he has in the source material. The Sinister Six would have given Kraven more than a few reasons to hunt them, but Kraven"s sense of self-control could have been on the line, just like in Marvel Comics" Kraven"s Last Hunt.
