A very different DC Universe almost made its way to theaters four years ago that would have outdone the DCEU. 2023 marked the conclusion of the DCEU movie timeline in order to pave the way for James Gunn's DC Universe, which is currently in the works. However, while the DCEU was happening, the world of television had its own interconnected universe happening on The CW in the form of the Arrowverse.
In his latest entry on his Substack site, Arrow and Legend of Tomorrow co-creator Marc Guggenheim, and one of the crucial executive producers for the Arrowverse, looked back at the big Crisis on Infinite Earths event that ran between the end of 2019 and into the start of 2020. Guggenheim revealed that the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover was almost brought to theaters, sharing the following:

I don't believe this is publicly known (again, statute of limitations) but we had been working with Warner Bros. to release all five hours of Crisis in movie theaters across the country. The event — arranged through Fathom Events — was going to include special surprises like cast appearances and giveaways and we'd also cut together a few bonuses that would have been screened in-between episodes and, yes, they would have included the deleted scenes — with all the VFX completed, the sound mixed, and the picture color-timed — that I'd mentioned. At this point, you're probably wondering why this event didn't go forward. Well, the answer is that it was scheduled for April 2020. Covid ruins everything.
