I Can’t Believe The DCU"s First Show Could Already Be Becoming A Movie

The new DC Universe will launch very soon, and I can"t wait to see new iterations of classic heroes in films like Superman and The Brave and the Bold, although recent talk of a new movie based on their first show has me intrigued. Before any major heroes come to the DCU, a compelling new team will be introduced in the first DCU show, featuring a number of characters that have since been confirmed for later projects. As details of that series begin to emerge, it seems that its place in the universe will be even more significant than thought.
I can"t believe how much the DCU slate has grown in such a short time. It seems that every other week, a new incredible project is announced or rumored by the studio, the most recent being Daniel Craig"s Sgt. Rock. Following announcements for films in the works like Dynamic Duo, it seems that a great deal of work is already happening to put DC Studios on the map. These details have grown even more significant with recent comments from James Gunn about a potential new film in the saga.
Creature Commandos Already Has A Chance Of Becoming A Movie Creature Commandos Premieres December 5th On Max Close Creature Commandos is set to be the first project in the DC Universe, and discussions of following the animated series with a movie have already occurred. The series follows a new cast of strange characters in a story that is reminiscent of Gunn"s The Suicide Squad. With the Creature Commandos cast including performers like Frank Grillo providing voices, such as Rick Flag Sr. in the series, the show will also cross over into other media. Grillo has already filmed scenes as Flag in Superman.
Speaking with Collider, Gunn detailed his appreciation for the creative team behind Commandos. On working with them in the future, Gunn seemed flexible in what might make sense to do with the characters and stories involved. "We might decide that we want to do something different with Creature Commandos. We might want to go off and make the Creature Commandos movie," he said. While hardly a commitment, this outlook does reflect flexible plans for the future of these new characters.
A Creature Commandos Sequel Movie Could Make Sense After The Show Little Is Known About The Future Of The Creature Commandos Close Creature Commandos begins as an animated series, but continuing the story in a feature film could make sense. The story of the series is set to introduce a number of interesting and colorful characters to the DC Universe and, following his success with the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, DC Studio co-CEO James Gunn is no stranger to making icons out of minor and strange comic book heroes. With his involvement and the right creative team, a feature film could be an excellent way to follow up on the series.
The DCU is set to introduce a fully fleshed-out and interconnected world that is still able to tell uniquely disconnected stories. Creature Commandos could go either way: the characters could integrate with heroes like Batman and Superman in live-action, or could continue as an animated side-project film for the universe. Discussion of a Creature Commandos season 2 has also taken place. Either way, a film could work for whatever creative direction the studio wishes to go, especially if the series is beloved and celebrated when it premieres.
A Creature Commandos Movie Would Match The DC Universe's Lineup The DCU Has Several Strange And Diverse Projects Already Close DC is making some strange and original choices with the future of their universe, and I couldn"t be more excited. Alongside major projects that feature Supergirl and Swamp Thing, the studio is hard at work providing updates on HBO Lanterns, which has an incredibly accomplished cast and crew, as well as making an animated Robin feature with Swaybox, an unknown and unique animation studio. DC is clearly willing to make unusual choices, and to take risks on many unique projects.
Moving forward with everything we know about Creature Commandos as a film would make sense, especially as the major studios, including Warner Bros., pivot from streaming to theatrical releases. The DCU"s lineup is diverse and exciting, and elevating lesser-known characters fits the perceived feel and tone of the universe. There are so many interesting stories to be drawn from the comics, and it is good to know that there is respect and appreciation both for the material and for the creatives now involved. The future of DCU looks very hopeful, and I can"t wait to see how things turn out.
