I'm Convinced Alan Ritchson Is The Perfect Choice For The DCU's Batman After Watching These 10 Movie & Show Scenes
Alan Ritchson is one of the biggest names in the running to play
Batman in the DCU, and after perusing some of the scenes in his movie and TV history, it"s easy to see why. Ritchson is one of the most recurring actors commonly fan-casted as Batman as the DCU gears up to reveal who will be playing its newest version of The Dark Knight. Examining some of his previous work, it"s easy to see how fans have come to this conclusion.
Ritchson"s trademark massive physique, standing at 6"3" and weighing in at around 235 pounds of lean muscle, is his most distinguishing feature, and could make for a compelling image as a beefier version of Batman in line with the recently popular Absolute Batman series. He"s also a phenomenal actor, and has come to master the physicality that playing such a martial hero would demand, thanks to his long history with action scenes. More and more, it seems like Ritchson could compete as one of the best Batman actors to ever don the cape and cowl.
10 Jack Reacher Rescues A Child Reacher
![]()
Alan Ritchson truly didn"t become a widely-recognized name until his casting as hard-boiled crime solver Jack Reacher in the Amazon series Reacher, doing the book character justice with his imposing frame after Tom Cruise hilariously played the tall literary character in the live-action movie. Reacher has truly given Ritchson a chance to shine as a protagonist rather than a supporting character. Many of his scenes in the series have demonstrated the makings of a great Batman, as well.
One of the best scenes in Reacher that shows off how good Ritchson would be as Batman is a moment where Reacher notices a woman at an ATM has been carjacked, her child held hostage in order to force her into forking over her savings. Calm and collected, Reacher assesses the situation and strides in, quickly apprehending and stripping the firearm of the dangerous criminal. In this moment, Reacher"s intuition, fighting ability, and terrifying use of force to protect a victim of a crime makes him practically indistinguishable from Batman.
9 Jack Reacher's Diner Fight Reacher
![]()
As the seasons of Reacher have continued, more and more DC hopefuls have become convinced that Ritchson would be the perfect Batman. It"s easy to see why with scenes like the diner brawl, in which Reacher confronts one of his enemies, spoiled murderous rich kid KJ Kliner, chopping it up with his buddies at a diner. After accurately assessing that the situation is a trap meant to get him in trouble, Reacher goes for the throat anyway, tossing around KJ and his friends like toys.
Of course, the fight choreography here has Batman written all over it, from the way Reacher is able to fend off multiple attackers to his use of the environment as a weapon, smashing the bad guys with plates and wrapping them up with tablecloths. The cold, cutting confidence in Reacher"s glare would look amazing coming out from underneath Batman"s cowl, another tough hero with nothing to lose still trying to do the right thing. This scene proves Ritchson can play a character with both the brains and the brawn to match Batman.
8 The Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare's Opening Scene The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare

Image via Lionsgate As one of the frontrunners for the next Batman, it"s fitting enough that Alan Ritchson already had a team-up with the most recent Superman, Henry Cavill. In The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, the two star in the titular top-secret combat unit meant to combat the Nazis at sea in World War II. The film begins with a thrilling shootout on a boat with Nazi sailors after they board the seemingly civilian vessel looking for smuggled goods or people.
Once again, Ritchson"s ability to tear through a group of bad guys with little effort is second-to-none. It"s worth mentioning that he"s also the only character in this scene not to use a gun, preferring instead to slice through the Nazi navy with a small knife, more indicative of Batman"s penchant for melee combat and distaste for firearms. Ritchson also is able to convincingly play someone playing someone else, a skill Batman has used on more then one occasion when going deep undercover as personas such as Matches Mallone.
7 Paul Navigates A Woman On The Brink Of A Mental Breakdown Black Mirror
![]()
A dedicated TV actor, Alan Ritchson managed to work his way into one of the better episodes of Black Mirror, an iconic sci-fi horror anthology series. Ritchson shows up in the episode Nosedive, which takes place in a world in which everyone rates every small interaction they have with one another on a scale from 1 to 5. Everyone has an average star rating that dictates their lives, and when protagonist Lacie"s score begins to slip, she enters a full-blown mental breakdown at her former friend"s wedding.
It"s important to remember that every Batman actor must also play Bruce Wayne, and Ritchson makes a compelling argument here for the role as a dazzling trophy groom. The way he calmly slides around the reception trying to get closer to Lacie as she slips further into social suicide in an attempt to quietly contain the situation is reminiscent of how Bruce Wayne might respond to a psychotic villain showing up to a function where he"s stuck in his plainclothes persona. If nothing else, Ritchson looks amazing in a tuxedo.
6 Raphael Fights Shredder Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
![]()
Alan Ritchson is no stranger to playing comic book characters who lean heavily on computer-generated imagery. Enter 2014"s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which saw Michael Bay take on another beloved 80s cartoon franchise after the live-action Transformers movies. Here, Ritchson lends both his voice and motion-capture performance to Raphael, fittingly enough, the bruiser of the reptilian brothers.
If there"s one comic book character that would idolize Batman, it"s Raphael, whose no-nonsense approach to crime fighting and overwhelming fighting style evokes the infamous Caped Crusader. In 2014"s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Raph shows off his tenacity and willingness to fight against overwhelming odds by taking on the terrifying Shredder by himself, withstanding a brutal beating to buy time for his brothers to recover. This moment is a great showcase of Ritchson"s ability to act through CGI and emulate Batman"s ability to take on far more physically powerful opponents.
5 Raphael Takes Out Some Motorcyclists Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows
![]()
Alan Ritchson came back as Raphael in the sequel to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in 2016, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows. Here, the Turtles have a little bit more confidence in taking on bad guys, especially Ritchson"s Raphael. At one point during a car chase, Raphael decides to jump into the highway to take out three motorcycle-riding bad guys all by himself, somehow making it back into the Turtle Tactical Truck without a scratch.
It"s easy to imagine Batman performing the same moves Raphael does here, bouncing off the asphalt and acrobatically clotheslining two mooks, unleashing a corny one-liner right after. Considering his street-level battles, it"s quite common for Batman to find himself in all manner of car chases and highway battles. Knowing that Alan Ritchson was able to navigate both with the limitations of a motion capture suit hindering his performance says a lot about his ability to keep up as Batman.
4 Aquaman Sabotages The Leviathan Project Smallville
![]()
Not only has Alan Ritchson played a famous comic book character before, but he"s actually played a prominent member of DC"s Justice League. By now, it"s a little-known fact that Alan Ritchson actually had the honor of being the first person to play Aquaman in live-action, debuting as Arthur Curry in Smallville early in his career. One scene in particular stands out for being the closest Aquaman ever came to being Batman on the show.
At one point, Aquaman infiltrates Lex Luthor"s Leviathan project, silently sabotaging it when no one is looking. As important as it is for Batman to be a brawler, espionage and stealth are two of his biggest specialties, and it"s telling that Ritchson has already experienced what it"s like to be a superhero operating on the downlow. Even if Aquaman does get captured after this scene, it"s a good showcast of the actor"s ability to embody a true clandestine mission.
3 Gloss Makes An Appeal To The Districts The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
![]()
Alan Ritchson has already had some valuable experience being in a huge blockbuster franchise. In The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, battle royale survivors Katniss and Peeta are called back for a quarter quell, in which old victors from the games are forced to participate in a new battle. One of their opponents is Alan Ritchson"s Gloss, a powerful fighter from District One battling alongside his fellow winner and sister, Cashmere.
Once more, Ritchson demonstrates his ability to ride two sides of the same coin with a single character as he portrays Gloss making an appeal to the wealthy financiers of the games, soliciting empathy by saying that him and his sister didn"t choose to come back to fight again. This is in stark contrast to his previous scene ferociously training with throwing knives, coincidentally emulating Batman"s own penchant for throwing weapons. Gloss" clear stage persona here speaks volumes to Ritchson"s ability to put on a good Bruce Wayne.
2 Hawk And Dove Take On Some Street Thugs Titans
![]()
Not only has Ritchson played a popular comic book character and even an important DC hero before, but he"s even played a DC hero operating in Gotham City with a distinctly similar M.O. to Batman. Alan Ritchson appeared on the edgy DC-based drama series Titans, showing up as the vigilante Hawk. Hawk fights alongside his romantic partner, Dove, and at one point the two of them take on a whole gang of thugs fighting back-to-back.
Hawk"s cape and fighting style here are so on the nose for Batman that it"s hard to believe he hasn"t been cast as The Dark Knight already. Moreover, Ritchson shows off some more choreography, fighting side-by-side with another costumed crime fighter. This skill in particular could be invaluable to the upcoming Batman: The Brave and the Bold, which will see Batman team up with a new version of Robin.
1 Aimes Tears Through Dom's Defenders Fast X
![]()
Thanks to his increased profile from Reacher, Alan Ritchson has been able to creep back into the public zeitgeist enough to get roles in big-budget blockbusters like Fast X. This installment of the Fast and Furious franchise introduces Ritchson as Aimes, the latest leader of the mysterious Agency after Mr. Nobody disappears. At one point, in the search for Dominic Toretto, Aimes makes his way into the favelas of Rio de Janeiro, where he takes on a whole gaggle of Dom"s homeboys.
Yet another incredible showing of Alan Ritchson"s skill with fight scenes, Aimes proves that the power of family might not be as strong as Dom thinks as he dismantles Dom"s neighborhood friends one at a time. The moves Ritchson shows off here are undeniably Batman, disassembling firearms and taking out foes with a single meaty punch. By this point in his career, Alan Ritchson has proven that he is more than deserving of his
Batman contender status.
