New Ryan Reynolds & Hugh Jackman Movie Must Overcome The Inevitable Problem Caused By Deadpool & Wolverine"s $1.3 Billion Success

After the wild success of Deadpool & Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, and director Shawn Levy are reuniting for another, non-superhero project, but it must overcome the inevitable problem caused by Deadpool & Wolverine. After teaming up in the action comedy Free Guy in 2021, Shawn Levy and Ryan Reynolds worked together again the following year in the sci-fi comedy The Adam Project before their debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Deadpool & Wolverine. To make the latter more exciting, it also reunited Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, bringing Wolverine back for one more adventure.
Deadpool & Wolverine arrived as part of the MCU’s Phase 5 and used the multiverse to bring Wolverine back after Logan’s death in Logan. Deadpool & Wolverine kept the tone and sense of humor of past Deadpool movies while also fitting the MCU’s current style and addressing its chaotic multiverse. This, along with the undeniable chemistry between Reynolds and Jackman, led to the massive success of Deadpool & Wolverine, so it’s not surprising that Levy, Reynolds, and Jackman are working together again – but they have a big challenge ahead thanks to Deadpool & Wolverine.
Ryan Reynolds & Hugh Jackman's Upcoming Movie With Shawn Levy Faces Massive Expectations After Deadpool & Wolverine Deadpool & Wolverine Set The Bar A Bit Too High For Them Speaking to Variety in November 2024, Ryan Reynolds shared he’s working on a new movie that has nothing to do with Marvel and superheroes. Reynolds said he’s spending the year writing and his project is for himself, Jackman, and Levy to do. Of course, Reynolds didn’t share any details about the movie, not even the genre or if it has already been greenlit by a studio, but no matter the story and tone, this movie is already facing massive expectations all thanks to the success of Deadpool & Wolverine.
Deadpool & Wolverine faced massive expectations, and it managed to meet them all and more.
Deadpool & Wolverine was a highly anticipated project even before it was confirmed to happen. The confirmation of its place in the MCU only increased anticipation and expectations, and they continued to grow once Jackman was announced to return as Wolverine. With the MCU currently covering the multiverse and its many possibilities, Deadpool & Wolverine faced massive expectations, and it managed to meet them all and more. The best proof of this is its box office numbers, which, at the time of writing, made Deadpool & Wolverine the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time.
The Levy-Reynolds team-up proved once more to be very successful with Deadpool & Wolverine, and Jackman was the cherry on top. Of course, the audience will now have even higher expectations for their next movie together, even more so as it’s unrelated to Marvel, giving them the chance to bring to life a brand-new story fueled by their incredible chemistry both on and off-screen.
Deadpool & Wolverine Proves Reynolds, Jackman & Levy Know How To Handle Massive Audience Expectations Deadpool & Wolverine Went Beyond The Audience’s Expectations Despite the pressure that comes with the success of Deadpool & Wolverine now that Levy, Reynolds, and Jackman are working together again, Deadpool’s third movie should provide some relief to the audience. Deadpool & Wolverine had a lot to cover – in terms of narrative, fitting in the MCU, continuing Deadpool’s story, etc – and it could have been very easy for it to fall off the rails at some point, crashing and burning as has happened to other recent MCU movies, most notably Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
What the audience would now expect from Reynolds, Levy, and Jackman’s new movie would be a good quality story, a lot of humor, and fun surprises.
However, Deadpool & Wolverine kept its pace and while it’s not a perfect movie, it met the audience’s high expectations and even went beyond with some fun surprises. What the audience would now expect from Reynolds, Levy, and Jackman’s new movie would be a good quality story, a lot of humor, and fun surprises, and they can do a lot with the freedom of not being tied to any pre-existing material or a shared universe.
