The MCU"s Newest Villain Raises A Huge Question About Iron Man"s Endgame Death We May Never Get An Answer To
The latest big villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was introduced in
Agatha All Along, leading to questions about Iron Man"s final moments in Avengers: Endgame. With Robert Downey Jr. part of the confirmed cast of Avengers: Doomsday, these questions may yet be answered.
While Marvel has done a great job with some of their more human villains, recent years have seen bigger types of foes, including Celestials and God-Butchers. Following in this trend, Marvel"s latest villain raises several important questions.
Iron Man"s death was one of the best moments in the MCU history. His final scene in Endgame was complex, and felt like the proper culmination of Tony Stark"s entire journey through the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, as the franchise grows bigger, and both more cosmic and more spiritual,
metaphysical questions about that experience begin to be raised. These new realizations, shown in Agatha All Along, recontextualize this iconic scene in a strange and unexpected way.
The MCU's Newest Storyline Raises Questions About Whether Iron Man Met Death Death Was Introduced In Agatha All Along Close Agatha All Along revealed Rio Vidal to be Death in the MCU, recontextualizing Iron Man"s own death in Avengers: Endgame. While the entire process of how Death collects bodies for the afterlife is not entirely clear, it is sure that the character has at least some in hand in every death that occurs. Following this,
it is impossible not to wonder if Iron Man saw Death there that day, and if she guided him into the afterlife. This would have made this iconic scene quite different.
Other deaths have occurred throughout the MCU, and the same question applies there.
It is unclear if Wanda Maximoff saw Death in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, or if Pietro did in Avengers: Age of Ultron. These moments now have a different feel to them, as it has become clear that Death appears as a human-like entity in the universe. While the rules surrounding Death have not been explained in full, each of these scenes now feels different, regardless of how this event occurs.
The MCU's Death Introduction Makes A Big Franchise Challenge Even Trickier The More That Death Is Defined In The MCU, The More Rules Its Films Have To Follow Close With a metaphysical concept being drawn and grounded in this fashion, many past moments from the franchise seem to potentially be at odds with this. Moon Knight saw a differently defined vision of the afterlife, as did Jane Foster in the ending of Thor: Love and Thunder. With this in mind,
there are now rules and conditions that surround the concept of Death in the universe, and as a result, all of these different iterations will have to align. As Death becomes grounded in the series, new rules will apply.
As a result, it is unclear if Death will play a major part in upcoming projects in the MCU.
With her power being so incredible, and her impact on the universe so difficult to define, exploring more of Death"s story could be to the detriment of the universe. While it is a fun thought to imagine her character in different scenes throughout the MCU"s history, recontextualizing these moments may work in some cases and may not in others.
