Venom: The Last Dance delivered the perfect response to the confusion caused by the post-credits scene of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Tom Hardy made his MCU debut as Eddie Brock in Spider-Man: No Way Home, having been dragged into the 616-universe by Doctor Strange"s original botched spell, though he didn"t join the battle at the Statue of Liberty. Instead, Eddie Brock drank his time away at a bar in Mexico, and was filled in on a brief history of the MCU by Cristo Fernández"s bartender, and this scene played out again in Venom: The Last Dance"s opening moments.
Eddie Brock and Venom"s brief stint in the world of the MCU caused some confusion and spurred criticism, as it was reversed as quickly as it was established at the end of 2021"s Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Venom made no mark on the MCU whatsoever, and, most notably, did not cross paths with Tom Holland"s Spider-Man at all, which was seriously disappointing. Hilariously, Venom: The Last Dance addressed this criticism with one swift joke aimed at the multiverse which was delivered shortly after Venom returned to Sony"s Spider-Man Universe.
Venom 3's Multiverse Line Makes Particular Sense After No Way Home's Credits Scene Changes Venom Is Done With The Multiverse Close The opening moments of Venom: The Last Dance mirrored the final scene of Spider-Man: No Way Home, catching up with Eddie Brock in the bar in Mexico in the MCU"s 616-universe. However, he was hastily returned to the SSU by Doctor Strange"s memory wipe spell, where he made himself a drink and set out to run from the Xenophages sent by Knull. Being thrust back into his home reality, Venom declared, "I"m so done with this multiverse s**t," which bears resemblance to Deadpool joking about the lackluster projects of the MCU"s Multiverse Saga in Deadpool & Wolverine.

This was a throwaway line from Venom, but stuck out as the perfect way to address the confusion caused by Spider-Man: No Way Home"s mid-credits scene. Firstly, Eddie Brock appearing in the MCU didn"t make sense, as Doctor Strange"s spell was supposed to bring characters who knew Spider-Man"s true identity into the MCU, and Venom did not. It also didn"t make sense that he was returned in the way he was, and it was a shame he didn"t meet Spider-Man during his visit. Venom declaring he"s done with the multiverse surely reflected the thoughts of many viewers.
Why Spider-Man: No Way Home Undid The Venom 2 Post-Credits Scene So Quickly Spider-Man: No Way Home's Turn Of Events Was Disappointing

It never made sense that Venom would have been dragged into the MCU by Doctor Strange"s spell at the end of Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Let There Be Carnage"s mid-credits scene was directed by Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts in conjunction with the MCU Phase 4 movie, but there was no explanation as to how this could have been possible. Venom did not know Spider-Man"s identity, so it would have been awkward bringing them together, which means it was more beneficial to simply reverse this and send Venom back home.
The Multiverse Looks Even More Important To Sony's Story Now More Than Ever Knull Will Likely Pose A Threat To The Entire Multiverse

Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Spider-Man: No Way Home"s mid-credits scenes, and the opening moments of Venom: The Last Dance, had basically no impact on The Last Dance"s storyline whatsoever. While Venom might be done with the multiverse, the multiverse might not be done with him, especially now that Knull has been introduced to live-action. In Marvel Comics, Knull was dubbed the King in Black by the Celestials, tasked with maintaining the multiverse from within, though he renounced this mission and set out to spread darkness instead.

It seems very likely that Knull will somehow be freed from his Symbiote-inflicted imprisonment at some point in the future of Sony"s Spider-Man Universe. Since he poses such a huge multiversal threat in Marvel Comics, it"s very possible that Knull will take on the same role for the SSU, perhaps allowing him to bridge the gap between the SSU and the MCU. Knull and the multiverse may play a key part in the SSU"s future, so Venom"s multiverse line in Venom: The Last Dance soon may not be so funny.
