10 MCU Characters Who Deserved More Screen Time

Summary
  • Many Marvel characters in the MCU have been overlooked and not given the screen time they deserve.
  • Supporting characters like Betty Brant, Okoye, and The Collector have all been underutilized in the franchise.
  • Characters like Zeus, Razor Fist, and Luis have had their potential limited by lack of screen time in the MCU.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has introduced countless Marvel characters to the big screen, but the franchise has also failed to give some the amount of screen time they deserve. The movies of the MCU form one of the most ambitious and successful shared universes in all pop culture. With stories and characters adapted from the pages of Marvel Comics with a fresh creative spin for its live-action format, the MCU has repeatedly captured the hearts and imaginations of global audiences since its creation, bringing many Marvel characters to life on the big screen.
With so many characters existing within the MCU’s movie timeline, not all are able to receive the attention they deserve. In many cases, the franchise has made use of beloved, iconic, or simply interesting figures from the comics, only to seemingly waste their potential or fail to appropriately establish their characters within the MCU. In many cases, the opportunity to do so appears to have passed entirely, while in others, there is still potential that the MCU will do them justice in the future. With that in mind, here are 10 MCU characters who deserved more screen time.

Release Date July 7, 2017 Director Jon Watts Cast Michael Keaton , Martin Starr , Angourie Rice , Robert Downey Jr. , Marisa Tomei , Bokeem Woodbine , Logan Marshall-Green , Garcelle Beauvais , Michael Mando , Zendaya , Tom Holland , Jon Favreau , Donald Glover , Hannibal Buress Though Betty Brant might not be the most iconic supporting character in Spider-Man’s history, she is one of the longest-lasting. Peter Parker’s colleague at the Daily Bugle was introduced to the MCU in Spider-Man: Homecoming as one of the hero’s high school classmates, played by Angourie Rice. Rice’s comedic and dramatic abilities afforded the MCU the opportunity to make Brant an important supporting character, but sadly, she wasn’t given the attention she deserved. With the world now having forgotten Peter Parker, it’s unclear if Brant will ever get more screen time in the MCU.
9 Okoye Is One Of The MCU’s Best Supporting Heroes Introduced in: Black Panther (2018) Close Black Panther
Release Date February 16, 2018 Director Ryan Coogler Cast Chadwick Boseman , Lupita Nyong'o , Letitia Wright , Angela Bassett , Winston Duke , Michael B. Jordan , Danai Gurira , Forest Whitaker First introduced in 2018's Black Panther, Okoye also played a supporting role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever's cast. Despite having made multiple MCU appearances, Okoye has never truly been afforded the attention she deserves. Played to perfection by Danai Gurira, Okoye is one of the MCU's most interesting and exciting female heroes, but her continued supporting role relegates her to considerably less screen time than she truly deserves. Whether Okoye's story will be explored in more depth remains to be seen, but the sad reality is that the MCU hasn't truly fulfilled her potential by limiting her screen time.
8 The Collector Was Barely More Than A Minor Player In The MCU Introduced In Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) Guardians of the Galaxy
Release Date July 30, 2014 Director James Gunn Cast Zoe Saldana , Karen Gillan , Vin Diesel , Michael Rooker , Djimon Hounsou , Lee Pace , Benicio Del Toro , Glenn Close , Dave Bautista , Chris Pratt2 , Bradley Cooper , John C. Reilly In the stories of Marvel Comics, the Collector is one of the universe’s most powerful figures. With an actor as respected as Benicio del Toro cast in the role for Guardians of the Galaxy, it seemed that the MCU might attempt to make him an equally important figure in the franchise, but it wasn’t to be. After just a few appearances and some very limited screen time, the Collector sold Knowhere to the Guardians and has yet to resurface within the MCU, making his lack of meaningful appearances seem like a clear missed opportunity.
7 Zeus Played A Smaller Role Than He Deserved Introduced In Thor: Love and Thunder (2022) Thor: Love and Thunder
Release Date July 8, 2022 Director Taika Waititi Cast Christian Bale , Russell Crowe , Tessa Thompson , Chris Pratt2 , Natalie Portman , Karen Gillan , Chris Hemsworth In the stories of Marvel Comics, Zeus is as powerful a figure as his place in real-world mythology would suggest. The character was finally introduced to the MCU in Thor: Love and Thunder, acting as the leader of the gods living in Omnipotence City and played by Russell Crowe. However, the MCU’s Zeus isn’t depicted as a particularly powerful figure and appears all too briefly within the movie. Love and Thunder’s post-credits scene all but confirms more screen time for Zeus, as he sends his son Hercules to get revenge on Thor for humiliating him.
6 Shang-Chi Severely Underused Razor Fist Introduced In Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021) Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
Release Date September 3, 2021 Director Destin Cretton Cast Awkwafina , Simu Liu , Tony Leung Chiu Wai Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings introduced a number of concepts and characters to the MCU, and some of them were criminally underexplored. Perhaps the most evident example is Razor Fist, who acts as a secondary antagonist in the early stages of the movie. Razor Fist’s MCU design, combined with his relatively obscure nature to those less well-versed in Marvel Comics lore, made him a perfect and exciting character within the franchise, but sadly, his role in Shang-Chi was minimal and his screen time severely limited.
5 Luis Is Perfect For The MCU’s Humor, Despite A Lack Of Screen Time Introduced In Ant-Man (2015) Close Ant-Man
Release Date July 14, 2015 Director Peyton Reed Cast Paul Rudd , Michael Douglas , Corey Stoll , Evangeline Lilly , Bobby Cannavale , Anthony Mackie Although Luis is not a character who has a huge impact on the stories of the MCU, his role is a subtly important one. Michael Peña’s ability to bring levity to any scene he’s in is a perfect match for the MCU’s tone, and as such, Luis is an excellent supporting character. Even so, his actual screen time in the franchise has been limited, and Luis has appeared far less than his comedic potential deserves.
4 Taweret Was One Of Moon Knight’s Best Characters Introduced In Moon Knight (2022) Moon Knight
Release Date March 30, 2022 Cast May Calamawy , F. Murray Abraham , Lucy Thackeray , Ethan Hawke , Oscar Isaac , Gaspard Ulliel Seasons 1 Moon Knight introduced multiple Egyptian gods to the MCU, but some were featured far more heavily than others. Taweret appeared only briefly as a spirit guide of sorts to Marc Spector, helping him and his elder Steven Grant, as they attempted to cross the Duat. Taweret’s appearance as a humanoid hippopotamus combined with her easily likable nature made her an excellent addition to Moon Knight’s cast, but she sadly wasn’t given anywhere the amount of screen time she sorely deserved.
3 Namor’s Comic Book Importance Wasn’t Reflected In Wakanda Forever Introduced In Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022) Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
Release Date November 11, 2022 Director Ryan Coogler Cast Winston Duke , Dominique Thorne , Michaela Coel , Danai Gurira , Angela Bassett , Lupita Nyong'o , Letitia Wright , Martin Freeman In the comics, Namor the Sub-Mariner is one of the most important and influential mutants in the entire Marvel Universe. His MCU debut was highly anticipated as a result, finally making his way to the big screen as the primary antagonist of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Despite playing a key role in the story and being the movie’s most exciting character, Namor was used sparingly and deserved far more screen time in his first MCU appearance.
2 Quicksilver’s Abrupt Death Was A Huge Waste Of A Great Character Introduced In Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) Avengers: Age of Ultron
Release Date May 1, 2015 Director Joss Whedon Cast Chris Hemsworth , Clark Gregg , Robert Downey Jr. , Cobie Smulders , Aaron Taylor-Johnson , Jeremy Renner , Thomas Kretschmann , Chris Evans , Don Cheadle , Mark Ruffalo , Elizabeth Olsen , Scarlett Johansson , Paul Bettany , Samuel L. Jackson , James Spader One of the first X-Men characters introduced into the MCU, Pietro Maximoff – aka Quicksilver – was an important addition to the cast of Avengers: Age of Ultron. After acting as a secondary antagonist for most of the film, Quicksilver shockingly dies after choosing to help the heroes, drastically limiting his overall screen time within the MCU. As an exciting character in his own right and with the talent of Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the role, it’s clear that Quicksilver was owed much more MCU screen time.
1 Heimdall’s Power Level Didn’t Match His Screen Time Introduced In Thor (2011) Close First appearing in 2011’s Thor, Heimdall is one of Asgard’s most powerful and prominent figures. Despite being considered a secondary character, Heimdall’s role within the MCU was one of relative importance, owing mostly to his rather high level of power. However, he was barely used to any real effect, with his most significant role being played in Thor: Ragnarok only a short time before his in-universe death. Heimdall’s status as a powerful Asgardian figure implied a level of importance that simply wasn’t reflected by his overall screen time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
