  • Marvel Studios' Nova project has faced delays and restructuring amidst the MCU's creative overhaul for its TV productions.
  • Rumors suggest Ryan Gosling may portray Richard Rider, and the Nova series may explore Thanos' attack on the Nova Empire in Infinity War.
Marvel Studios' new cosmic hero, Nova, has been depicted in new MCU fan art that casts a previous Fantastic Four star in a brand-new superhero role. Sabir Pirzada was revealed to be penning the script for an MCU project focused on Marvel Comics' Richard Rider, a.k.a. Nova, in March 2022, but since then, news on the prospective series has been scarce. Pushbacks, strikes and delays in the MCU's Multiverse Saga release schedule have meant that Marvel Studios' Nova project is taking a slower developmental process, but there has nevertheless been speculation regarding who will be cast in the titular role.
While the likes of Ryan Gosling, Glen Powell, Liam Hemsworth and Taron Egerton have been popular fan-casts for Richard Rider's Nova in the MCU, new fan art shared by Zippexe depicts Miles Teller in the role.
Miles Teller previously starred as Reed Richards' Mister Fantastic in Fox's 2015 remake Fantastic Four, which bombed at the box office and was panned by critics and audiences alike. The Fantastic Four will be rebooted for the MCU, and Teller hasn't been confirmed to have any involvement with Marvel Studios, but he may be perfect for the role of Nova in the MCU's future.
Related Marvel Confirms A Huge Part Of Nova's MCU Story, Years Before He Arrives Years before the character’s official debut, Marvel Studios has already confirmed one huge aspect of Nova’s story via an unlikely project. What's Going On With Nova In The MCU? Close Despite Marvel Studios' Nova project being announced back in early 2022, there has been no word on the storyline, cast, and release date for the prospective MCU series. The project was initially thought to be either a feature film or a Special Presentation, but is now expected to release as a long-form series on Disney+, though it's unclear exactly when this will occur. With Marvel Studios restructuring its TV production, putting every project through a major creative overhaul following 2023's WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, it's possible that Nova may be dropped from the schedule or reworked into a different form.
Recent rumors suggest that Academy Award nominee Ryan Gosling may have been in talks to portray Richard Rider, though this hasn't been confirmed. Thankfully, the foundations have already been laid for his debut, as the Nova Empire debuted in 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy, and was developed further in 2023's What If...? season 2. Thanos' attack on Xandar's Nova Empire in search of the Power Stone in Avengers: Infinity War is also expected to be seen in Marvel Studios' Nova series, and the hero could have huge future potential with the likes of the Young Avengers set to appear.
