Matt Reeves" The Batman 2 Update Kills Every Cancelation Conspiracy Theory

Despite years passing since The Batman was released, director Matt Reeves' comments to SFX Magazine confirm that The Batman Part II is still very much in the works. While The Batman proved to be a highly popular DCEU adjacent movie in 2022, the film arrived at a tumultuous time for DC and Warner Bros. Studio as the entire universe of stories was shifting. As a result, development of a sequel was painfully slow, with almost no details being revealed about the upcoming film.
With a release date that is set more than two years in the future, in October 2026, rumors began to circulate about whether the movie would get made at all. However, thanks to Reeves speaking out about what to expect, and hinting at the work with the script, it's very clear that the studios are also excited to begin work on the film. There is still plenty of time from now until The Batman's eventual release, but at least fans can rest assured that the movie is on the way.
We've shared [the script] as we've been going along with DC, and they're super excited. - Matt Reeves to SFX Magazine
Why The Batman 2 Had So Many Cancelation Theories The Development For The Batman Part II Appeared To Be At A Standstill Close Despite The Batman's incredible $765 million box office (via The Numbers), and the movie being nominated for three Oscars, the sequel appears to be in no rush to happen. This is highly unusual for studios who typically attempt to capitalize on success as rapidly as possible and speed up highly anticipated projects. With this perceived reluctance to get the movie made, it appeared as though the movie may have been canceled by executives before it ever got into late stages of development.
