Who Is Agatha All Along"s Villain? 6 Potential Marvel Theories Explained

Marvel Studios' Agatha All Along is the MCU's next show, and there are some interesting theories about how the show's villain might be. Featuring the return of Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) as she seeks to reclaim her power, the witch will join forces with a brand-new coven to reclaim what has been lost. However, it's not yet been revealed who (or what) will serve as the primary antagonist.
At the end of 2021's WandaVision, Wanda Maximoff embraced her role as the Scarlet Witch, a powerful wielder of chaos magic. She also took Agatha's magic before locking Harkness in a spell that made her believe she was just another nosy neighbor living in the town of Westview. However, Agatha All Along will see the spell broken in the wake of Wanda's death, providing Agatha with the opportunity to get her magic back. Keeping that in mind, here are six possible theories about who might serve as Agatha All Along's villain.
6 "Teen" (Billy Kaplan/Demiurge?) Close In the trailers for Agatha All Along, it's revealed that Joe Locke is playing a character who's been referred to only as "Teen". This character is a teenager whose real name has been kept a secret, presumably until it's revealed in the show itself. The mystery surrounding Teen has also continued to build, as he's admittedly obsessed with Agatha Harkness and her history. He's also the one who will help free her from Wanda's spell. Needing her to help him travel down the Witches' Road, it's unclear what "Teen's" true motives are.

That said, the prevailing theory has been that "Teen" is none other than Billy Kaplan, the reincarnated son of Wanda Maximoff. The biggest clue has been one particular shot seen in the trailers where Joe Locke's character is wearing red and a blue headband, evoking the Halloween costume the younger Billy Maximoff wore in WandaVision, which itself was a homage to Billy Kaplan's Wiccan costume in the comics. With that in mind, "Teen" being Billy Kaplan might speak to his motives for going down the Witches' Road.
In the trailers, it's said that those who venture down the Witches' Road and get to the end are given that which they want most. For Agatha, this would be the restoration of her magical abilities. However, Billy (if that's who "Teen" is) might want to bring his mother back. This would naturally put him at odds with Agatha. At the same time, perhaps Billy is seeking greater power of his own. As the son of the Scarlet Witch, Marvel Comics' Wiccan is the prophesied being known as the Demiurge, a being who wields the power of creation itself.
5 Rio Vidal The Mysterious Green Witch Close While Agatha and "Teen" will be putting together a brand-new coven of witches to join them on the Witches' Road, the most mysterious by far is Aubrey Plaza's Rio Vidal. Also known as the Green Witch, Rio is seen in the trailers inside Agatha's mind as she envisions herself as a detective investigating Wanda's death. Later on, Rio is featured emerging out of the ground, suggesting her magic may come from the earth itself. Likewise, it's also been suggested that Rio resembles Gaea, an Elder God in the Marvel Universe who's not unlike Mother Nature.

Rio secretly being Gaea could have huge implications for the MCU and its more supernatural aspects. Not only would it be the introduction of a new magical god in the MCU, but the introduction of Gaea could set up the debut of her brother in the MCU: Chthon. Another Elder God, Chthon is the creator of chaos magic and the Darkhold, effectively the source of Wanda Maximoff's powers.
With that in mind, Rio Vidal could be the start of something huge in the MCU. This is especially true considering the potential for The Scarlet Witch's possible resurrection after she sacrificed herself in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Having destroyed Mount Wundagore and every copy of the Darkhold, perhaps the time has finally come for Gaea and Chthon to emerge in Agatha All Along.
4 Mephisto Will The Demon Lord Finally Get His MCU Debut? Close Mephisto has been rumored for the MCU since 2021's WandaVision. Rumors and theories were running rampant, many of which bled over into the first season of Loki as well. While it's been rumored that Mephisto is still coming to the MCU and has even been cast with Sacha Baron Cohen in the role, MCU fans have yet to see the Marvel Universe's Demon Lord on-screen.
Keeping that in mind, perhaps the time has come for Mephisto to finally make his MCU debut in Agatha All Along. After all, trailers for the upcoming MCU show do feature what looks to be demons and all sorts of supernatural evils plaguing the Witches' Road. Perhaps Mephisto will be the one to grant the rewards at the end of the Road. That said, providing what someone wants most does seem prime for the Demon Lord to tack on some sort of secret catch. He does love his Faustian bargains.
3 Chthon The Elder God of Chaos Magic Close Whether Rio Vidal is revealed to be Gaea or not, Chthon could still emerge as a major threat in Agatha All Along. In the comics, Chthon had great plans for Wanda to become his dark vessel on Earth. However, his plans massively backfired when The Scarlet Witch proved to be too powerful and was able to keep him contained within her own spirit. Now that Wanda is gone in the MCU, the time may be ripe for Chthon to seek out a new vessel.
If "Teen" is indeed the son of The Scarlet Witch, perhaps he will be seen as a worthy vessel for Chthon to possess in Agatha All Along. Likewise, resurrecting Wanda and turning her into his puppet could be a very dark possibility as well. At any rate, the emergence of Chthon would certainly ramp up the stakes and power levels of the MCU's supernatural stories to the next level.
2 Resurrected Scarlet Witch Wanda Back From The Dead? Close Any version of a resurrected Scarlet Witch could easily become a major threat in Agatha All Along. It's not hard to imagine a dark and corrupted version of Wanda, twisting that which was perhaps wanted most by both Agatha and Teen/Billy. A resurrection would also provide what MCU fans have been wanting since Multiverse of Madness and Wanda's death.
One would hope that Wanda could be brought back as the hero she once was before she was corrupted by the Darkhold. However, it does seem likely that a resurrection might only be possible using large amounts of dark chaos magic. If so, it would more than likely come with some dark effects (at least at the onset of Wanda potentially being brought back to life in the MCU).
1 Agatha's Original Coven Evanora Harkness and the Salemites Close Another intriguing idea is that Agatha's new coven could end up facing her old one in Agatha All Along. As seen in a key flashback featured in WandaVision, Agatha was put on trial by her own mother, Evanora Harkness, and their coven known as the Salemites. Using their magical energies in an attempt to execute Agatha for breaking the rules of their coven and stealing dark knowledge above her age and station, the coven's punishment backfired in the face of Agatha's new dark power. She was also proved to be too powerful and killed her own mother.
While all the Salemites were killed by Agatha, they might still live on in the realm of the Witches' Road. As seen in the comics' version of the mystical plane of existence, time is confined to be vague and malleable, explaining why Wanda Maximoff was able to meet and interact with the spirit of her long-deceased mother on the page. As such, perhaps the Salemites will get their reckoning with Agatha once she and her new coven begin their journey down the Witches' Road of the MCU.
