Agatha All Along: Every Clue Marvel Hid To Teen"s Real Identity
Warning: This article contains spoilers for Agatha All Along episode 5, "Darkest Hour/Wake Thy Power."
The real identity of Joe Locke"s "Teen" has finally been uncovered in
Agatha All Along, and the series included many clues hinting at this shocking revelation. Since his debut in Agatha All Along"s premiere, "Seekest Thou the Road," the identity of Joe Locke"s new MCU character has been hidden behind a mysterious sigil. This censored any personal information about "Teen" from magical folk, including the members of Agatha Harkness" new witch coven, and "Teen" himself. However, this is no longer the case.
Agatha All Along episode 5, "Darkest Hour/Wake Thy Power," ended by seemingly confirming that Joe Locke"s "Teen" is actually Billy Kaplan, a.k.a. Wiccan, the reincarnated son of the Scarlet Witch.
It was fantastic to see "Teen" finally whip out his blue magic, which had previously been shown off by Julian Hilliard"s Billy Maximoff in WandaVision. Joe Locke being Wiccan had been heavily theorized since his casting in Agatha All Along, and the Phase 5 series has featured many clues and hints pointing to "Teen" being outed as Wiccan.
8 Teen Is Powerful Enough To Break The Scarlet Witch's Spell Agatha All Along Episode 1, "Seekest Thou The Road" Close The first hint towards "Teen" actually being a magic user such as Wiccan in Agatha All Along occurred during his first meeting with Agatha Harkness, which saw her interrogate him in her Agnes O"Connor guise. Agatha was trapped as Agnes by the Scarlet Witch in WandaVision"s finale, but
this spell became distorted following Wanda Maximoff"s death in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, twisting Agnes" world in the style of a true crime drama. During his interrogation, however, "Teen" accomplishes something incredibly powerful.
Related Teen's Powers In Agatha All Along Explained Agatha All Along finally revealed the identity of Teen, and he might be powerful enough to fundamentally alter the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
"Teen" uses a chant to loosen the grip of the Scarlet Witch"s spell on Agatha Harkness, which eventually leads to her breaking free of the spell altogether. In Agatha All Along episode 2, "Circle Sewn with Fate/Unlock Thy Hidden Gate," Agatha even questions why "Teen" wants more power if he already has the "goods to break a spell cast by the Scarlet Witch." This provided Agatha All Along"s first tease to "Teen" being much more powerful than he was letting on, setting up his future as Wiccan.
7 Teen's Sigil Looks Like An "M" For Maximoff Agatha All Along Episode 2, "Circle Sewn With Fate/Unlock Thy Hidden Gate" & Episode 3, "Through Many Miles Of Tricks & Trials" Close The mystery of "Teen"s" real identity in Agatha All Along was exacerbated by the appearance of a strange symbol that hid his name from Agatha Harkness and the other witches.
Lilia Calderu confirmed that this is a sigil in episode 3, "Through Many Miles of Tricks and Trials," a spell that hides something, in this case, hiding "Teen" from witch folk. Agatha laments that "Teen"s" sigil is "clumsy glamor," which drew comparisons to Wanda Maximoff naming herself Glamor in WandaVision episode 2, and the shape of the sigil also connected to the Scarlet Witch.

Billy Kaplan"s Wiccan is the reincarnated form of Billy Maximoff in Marvel Comics, so the fact that "Teen"s" sigil looks like the letter "M" spurred theories that this could have been revealing him to be a Maximoff twin. A case could also be made for his face contorting in such a way that it seemed though he was naming himself Billy Maximoff behind the sigil, but this is purely speculation, and hasn"t been confirmed.
"Teen"s" sigil seems to have disappeared now that Agatha has surmised his true identity.
6 Both Teen & Marvel Comics' Wiccan Are Gay Agatha All Along Episode 2, "Circle Sewn With Fate/Unlock Thy Hidden Gate" Close Billy Kaplan is one of the most notable, powerful and recognizable LGBTQ+ characters in Marvel Comics, with his relationship and later marriage to Teddy Altman"s Hulkling being an incredibly popular addition to his story. When bringing this character into the MCU, it was important that this aspect of his story be adapted faithfully, as this is a huge step forward for representation in the MCU.
"Teen" was confirmed to be a member of the LGBTQ+ community in Agatha All Along episode 2, as he received a phone call from his "Boyf."
Billy Kaplan and Teddy Altman met in Marvel Comics" Young Avengers #1 in 2005, and began flirting and seriously dating soon after. They have since married, despite Altman"s Hulkling evolving into Emperor of the Kree-Skrull Alliance.
"Teen"s" boyfriend is portrayed by Miles Gutierrez-Riley in Agatha All Along, with early production briefs claiming he"d be named Eddie, though this hasn"t yet been confirmed in the MCU. Currently, Gutierrez-Riley"s character has only briefly appeared on a phone screen, but now that "Teen"s" real identity has been unearthed,
it seems likely a flashback episode of Agatha All Along will reveal more about his relationship to Billy Kaplan. This could begin to establish one of Marvel"s most significant gay couples in live-action, which will be incredible to see.
5 Agatha All Along Trailers Teased Teen As Wiccan Agatha All Along Trailers Close The ending of Agatha All Along episode 5 finally saw "Teen" use his blue magic, first to mind control Jennifer Kale and Lilia Calderu to throw Agatha Harkness off the Witches" Road, and later to throw Lilia and Jennifer off, too. Some of these moments had already been seen in trailers and footage from Agatha All Along, which may have spoiled the reveal of "Teen"s" true identity weeks before the series provided real confirmation.
There are some scenes featuring "Teen"s" magic that haven"t yet been seen in the MCU, however.
Most notably, in one scene, it seems as though "Teen" is using his blue magic to open the gate to the Witches" Road. It"s unclear why this scene comes to pass, given the fact that "Teen" is already on the Witches" Road with Agatha Harkness" coven, but
with four episodes of Agatha All Along set to release after the reveal of "Teen"s" real identity, there are plenty of opportunities for him to show off his new magical abilities. It"s a shame his true nature was spoiled prior to episode 5"s reveal, but it was still very impactful nonetheless.
4 Jennifer Kale Referenced Mephisto To Teen Agatha All Along Episode 3, "Through Many Miles Of Tricks & Trials" Close The origin of the Scarlet Witch"s children in Marvel Comics is directly connected to the iconic demonic villain Mephisto, so the MCU"s first name-drop of Mephisto in Agatha All Along episode 3 may have teased the Maximoff kids" return. Billy and Tommy Maximoff were created by the Scarlet Witch using magic in Marvel Comics" The Vision and the Scarlet Witch #1 in 1985. However,
it was later revealed that the twins had been created from two fractured pieces of Mephisto"s soul, which led to the kids" disappearance when Mephisto reabsorbed them.
Related "Black Heart": Marvel Just Dropped Another Mephisto Reference & Sparked The Best New MCU Theory Agatha All Along might have just reignited theories about Mephisto"s MCU debut by referencing an important demonic figure from Marvel Comics.
Eventually, the Maximoff twins were reincarnated as Billy Kaplan and Tommy Shepherd, which seems to have taken place in the MCU. It"s very possible that Wanda Maximoff used some of Mephisto"s soul to create Billy and Tommy in WandaVision, with Monica Rambeau even noting that they were real, despite being born in the Westview Hex.
Jennifer Kale"s reference to Mephisto in Agatha All Along, and "Teen"s" reaction to her statement, could have teased his connection to the iconic Marvel supervillain, should his Marvel Comics origin be adapted faithfully.
3 Teen Reveals Something Happened To Him 3 Years Ago Agatha All Along Episode 3, "Through Many Miles Of Tricks & Trials" Close Shortly after the MCU"s first name-drop of Mephisto, "Teen" tried to learn more about Alice Wu-Gulliver, the most closed-off member of Agatha Harkness" rag-tag coven. Alice revealed that her mother, witchy rock goddess Lorna Wu, had given her a tattoo at 13-years-old to protect her from a curse, which Agatha All Along episode 4, "If I Can"t Reach You/Let My Song Teach You," revealed was a generational curse that plagued the Wu family for centuries. In response to her heartbreaking backstory,
"Teen" noted that a lot happened to him at 13, too.
Julian Hilliard portrayed a ten-year-old Billy Maximoff in WandaVision, but Billy Kaplan may have been 13 at the same time, with Maximoff"s soul merging with Kaplan"s body following the dismantling of the Westview Hex.
"Teen" noted that he is 16-years-old in Agatha All Along"s premiere, meaning a lot happened to him three years prior to the series" start. Agatha Harkness is also revealed to have been living as Agnes in Westview for three years, meaning the events of WandaVision happened when "Teen" was 13-years-old. Considering this,
the things that happened to him could be referring to Billy Maximoff"s birth, the emergence of his powers, his demise, and his reincarnation as Billy Kaplan, a.k.a. Joe Locke"s "Teen."
2 Rio Vidal Noted That Teen Is Not Agatha's Son Agatha All Along Episode 4, "If I Can't Reach You/Let My Song Teach You" Close Prior to the final moments of Agatha All Along episode 4, even though the most popular theory had suggested that "Teen" is Billy Kaplan, it had also been suggested that he could, in fact, be Nicholas Scratch. Nicholas Scratch was Agatha Harkness" son, who rumors suggest was traded in exchange for the Darkhold, and there are many signs that point to Agatha becoming convinced that "Teen" was her child. However,
Rio Vidal reveals to Agatha that "the boy isn"t [hers]," which may have devastated Agatha, but also led to her realizing exactly who "Teen" is.
In Marvel Comics, Nicholas Scratch turned his back on his mother after Agatha Harkness decided to leave the magical community of New Salem, Colorado, to become a nanny for the Fantastic Four. He set his seven children, the Salem Seven, on his mother, and they killed her, but she was eventually resurrected.
Agatha Harkness imagined that "Teen" was Nicholas Scratch presumably because of Rio Vidal"s reappearance. Theories suggest that Vidal is actually the MCU"s Lady Death, who previously betrayed Agatha by taking her son, but may have now brought him back. Since Rio Vidal reveals that "Teen" is not Nicholas Scratch,
Agatha surmised that there was only one other possibility of who he could be - the son of the Scarlet Witch. This was an emotional moment, but led to Agatha All Along episode 5"s epic revelation.
1 Teen Wore A Version Of Wiccan's Red & Blue Costume Agatha All Along Episode 5, "Darkest Hour/Wake Thy Power" Close Perhaps the most overt teases towards "Teen"s" real identity as Wiccan were delivered in Agatha All Along episode 5 before this theory was confirmed. The third trial on the Witches" Road saw Agatha Harkness" coven do a Ouija board as part of a 1980s-themed sleepover, with their costumes changing yet again to reflect the time period.
"Teen"s" "80s-themed costume featured a red-and-gray top with a blue headband, which was very reminiscent of Wiccan"s superhero costume from Marvel Comics - a red cape and blue headband.
Related Agatha All Along Episode 5 Easter Eggs & Marvel References Agatha All Along episode 5 is full of exciting moments and a major cliffhanger, complete with plenty of Easter eggs and MCU references.
After "Teen" finally showed off his blue magic at the end of
Agatha All Along episode 5, he was then seen sporting a blue crown, which looked strikingly similar to the Scarlet Witch"s red crown from WandaVision and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
The song that plays over the credits of episode 5, Billie Eilish"s "You Should See Me in a Crown," couldn"t have been more on the nose in referencing "Teen"s" crown and confirming his identity as "Billy." It"s very exciting to imagine where "Teen"s" Wiccan could head next in the MCU.
