Dave Bautista"s Dream DC Movie Role Can Finally Become A Reality After Major Update

Dave Bautista has had an excellent relationship with DC Universe co-CEO James Gunn since appearing in his Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, and the actor has spoken many times of a desire to play a certain DC role. Bautista"s Drax quickly became a humorous and beloved part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and remained such until his seeming final appearance in Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3. It appears that Bautista has moved on from the role - but, despite finding success in other genres, he has spoken of a willingness to return to another kind of superhero movie role.
The first chapter of the new DC Universe has been outlined in some detail, painting an exciting picture for the future of the franchise. This has included a range of unexpected projects, including a Teen Titans movie and a Booster Gold project. Some new details seem to indicate that a character Bautista has desired playing through the years may be entering the universe soon in one of these upcoming DC releases.
Dave Bautista Says His Dream DC Role Would Be Bane The Actor Has Spoken For Years About Playing The Batman Villain Close Dave Bautista has said for a very long time that he would love to play Bane in a DC movie. Bautista has spoken of DC dream roles for years, and seems to wish for the opportunity to flex his dramatic chops as an interesting antagonist rather than a hero in the universe. Of all of the villains that have been discussed for the universe, Bane has recently become a focus of conversation, leading to speculation that Bautista could join the burgeoning franchise.
This said, it is worth noting that Bautista expressed in a 2023 interview with IndieWire that he had trepidation about the idea of playing Bane at this stage in his career and life, stating, "I don’t think at this point in my career that I can bring justice to Bane anymore. I just don’t know if I could handle the physical part, and I don’t think I would have the longevity to plan ahead for films." However, DC"s latest plans involving the character could well circumvent some of these concerns, making the prospect still a tangible one.
DC Is Reportedly Developing A Bane & Deathstroke Team-Up Movie The Film Looks To Capitalize On The Success Of Films Like Deadpool & Wolverine Close Following reports that a DC movie featuring Bane and Deathstroke is in the works, it seems a new Bane casting is impending. Matthew Orton from Captain America: Brave New World is said to be writing a script for the film. Following the massive success of Deadpool & Wolverine, it appears that DC is looking to follow in Marvel"s footsteps with a team-up feature of their own - something that would both lend itself to Bautista"s comedy and action talents, as well as lessen the pressure placed on the actor by ensuring Bane shares the spotlight.
Bane has become a very popular villain since being introduced in the comics in 1993. The muscled villain has had an enormous impact on Batman stories, having broken the hero"s back in the 1990s. Deathstroke, too, has been rumored to feature in a major DC film for some time, having been planned for a previous version of Ben Affleck’s The Batman, featuring Joe Manganiello in the villain role. Following these delays, Deathstroke"s impending arrival is all the more interesting, especially if it occurs alongisde another villain like Bane.
Why Dave Bautista Would Be So Good As Bane The Actor's Dynamism And Versatility Would Make Him An Excellent DC Villain Close The list of actors who could be cast as Bane is considerable, but few seem as well-suited for the role as Dave Bautista. Following acclaimed performances in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery and Blade Runner 2049, and a brutal turn as Glossu "Beast" Rabban in Dune, the actor has shown incredible versatility in his performances. Bane has previously been played in major films by Jeep Swenson and Michael Reid Mackay in Batman & Robin, and Tom Hardy in The Dark Knight Rises, with both underlining how important it is to have an actor who can handle Bane"s gravitas.
Bane is a complex and brutal villain. He is incredibly powerful and often has a mind to match. This combination of cunning and violence has been seen in pieces throughout all of Bautista"s work, which would combine many of the different character types he has played in the past. When the years Bautista spent honing his ability to be intimidating through performances like his time in WWE are also factored in, it"s clear the actor would be well-suited to playing a memorable foe like Bane in the DCU.
Dave Bautista will hopefully play a part in the upcoming DCU, and the actor has already expressed interest in playing Bane. While Bautista"s desire for the role may have faded with time, if the quality of the film is sufficient, that spark may reignite. Bautista has blossomed into an excellent performer, and it would make sense that DC wishes to build a film around his abilities. Whether with the untitled Bane and Deathstroke team-up or another project altogether, Dave Bautista would be an asset to the DC Universe.
