2 Years Later, DC Just Confirmed The Biggest Problem With The Batman"s "Genius" Villain

The flaws of the finale of 2022’s The Batman are revealed early on in The Penguin. Set shortly after the events of The Batman, The Penguin centers on Oswald “Oz” Cobb in the aftermath of the Riddler’s machinations and the death of Carmine Falcone as the mid-level mobster works his way toward the top echelons of Gotham City’s underworld. Unsurprisingly, the events of The Batman factor heavily into the premise of The Penguin, and a major flaw in the Riddler’s plan becomes even more evident than before.
The Riddler is significantly reimagined in The Batman’s universe, with the 2022 film basing him on real-life serial killers. Having grown up as an impoverished orphan, Edward Nashton resents the corrupt elite of Gotham, and understandably so, given his traumatic upbringing. Using his exceptionally high intelligence, Nashton adopted the persona of the Riddler, forming a long-term plot to reveal the depth of Gotham’s corruption to the public and punish them as revenge for his suffering. The final portion of the Riddler’s scheme, however, has one major flaw that The Penguin highlights.
The Riddler Is Gotham's Evil Genius In The Batman Close With careful planning and a cult of followers who similarly loathe the corrupt Gotham elite, the Riddler murdered politicians and Gotham police officers who were tied to Carmine Falcone and his hijacking of the Gotham Renewal Fund. Although Riddler’s crimes were arguably directed at the right people, his methods were lethal and often endangered innocents, naturally putting him at odds with Batman. Fascinatingly, the Riddler did not see Batman as his enemy initially, perceiving him as his “partner” instead. The Riddler left clues and notes specifically for Batman, assuming that he and the vengeful vigilante were on the same side.
