Who Ms. Marvel Is Recruiting In California & What For
Warning! This article contains minor spoilers for Daredevil: Born Again episode 5.
Daredevil: Born Again episode 5 references Ms. Marvel and a trip to California, begging the question of what the young MCU hero is doing there. The ending of Daredevil: Born Again episode 4 teased that Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk were both returning to their violent ways, with episode 5 furthering the former down that path. In a rare bottle episode for the show, the only recurring member of Daredevil: Born Again"s cast to appear in episode 5 was Charlie Cox himself as Matt attempted to foil a bank robbery.
There, Matt came across another familiar face from the MCU"s past: Yusuf Khan, the father of Ms. Marvel. Ms. Marvel last appeared in the ending of The Marvels, with that film teasing her future in the franchise. Over a year and a half later, Daredevil: Born Again episode 5 has insinuated exactly what Ms. Marvel is up to, thanks to Yusuf"s supporting role in the story. Via the reference to Kamala"s whereabouts, Daredevil: Born Again episode 5 ties back to The Marvels by further setting up the story of a potential upcoming Marvel movie.

Firstly, it is worth exploring how Ms. Marvel was referenced in Daredevil: Born Again episode 5 before exploring how it sets up the MCU"s future. The episode centers around Matt"s journey to a New York bank to secure a loan for his and Kirsten"s law firm. Once there, he is met by Yusuf Khan, Kamala"s father, who is working as the assistant manager of the bank. During their initial conversation, Yusuf receives a phone call and apologizes to Matt, insisting that it is his daughter, Kamala, trying to get in touch with him.
The true nature of the next step in Ms. Marvel"s MCU journey can be gleaned...
What Matt does not know is that Kamala is Ms. Marvel, with the superhero alter ego also being mentioned by Yusuf as Jersey City"s very own superhero.
Where Kamala is concerned, though, Yusuf mentions that she is currently in California "visiting friends" before the bank is robbed and the true story of Daredevil: Born Again episode 5 gets underway. Thanks to these brief Easter eggs to Kamala"s whereabouts, however, the true nature of the next step in Ms. Marvel"s MCU journey can be gleaned.
Who Kamala Is Recruiting In California & Why Ms. Marvel Is Fulfilling A Promise From The Marvels Close For those familiar with the MCU"s recent history, the tease that Kamala is in California is certainly interesting. Although it could simply be a throwaway line to increase the interconnectivity of the franchise, it could stem from the reveal that she is spearheading the formation of the Young Avengers from The Marvels.
The 2023 Marvel movie ends with Kamala visiting another New York superhero, Kate Bishop, and telling her that she is building a superhero team of her own after asking "Did you know Ant-Man had a daughter?"

Posts This question from Kamala to Kate could explain the reference to her being in California in Daredevil: Born Again episode 5. After all, Ant-Man and his family are situated in San Francisco, California, teasing that Kamala is already beginning her quest to recruit Cassie Lang to the budding Young Avengers roster. Whether the Young Avengers will be depicted in an upcoming Marvel TV show or a movie like Avengers: Doomsday remains to be seen, but Daredevil: Born Again episode 5"s small reference is enough to explain why Cassie Lang will be part of the team when it eventually debuts.
Who Could Be Next For The Young Avengers? More Young Heroes Are Being Teased Close After this reference to Kamala"s quest in Daredevil: Born Again episode 5, the question naturally turns to who could be the next recruit for the Young Avengers. In recent years, the MCU has made it no secret that it is actively setting up several young heroes, with one even having a prominent role in Daredevil: Born Again episode 6. This episode featured the return of Daredevil: Born Again"s Angela del Toro, who is seemingly being primed to become the successor to White Tiger after Hector Ayala"s tragic death in episode 3.
Angela could be one of the next Young Avengers recruits, especially with Matt now having a connection between the Ayala family and the Khans. Beyond that, two other prime candidates for the Young Avengers are Billy and Tommy Maximoff. Agatha All Along"s ending teased the duo reuniting as teenagers, with the Young Avengers being a likely next step for their MCU stories. Other potential inclusions could be Skaar - also with a link to
Daredevil: Born Again"s Matt Murdock - Riri Williams, and Eli Bradley, to name but a few of the MCU"s teased Young Avengers.
