After Seeing This Smallville Art With Tom Welling's Superman, I Need Season 11 To Happen Now More Than Ever

Tom Welling suits up as his version of Superman once again through stunning Smallville artwork that makes a great case for why the DC TV show needs to be revived. As Smallville explored Clark Kent"s origin story of becoming Superman, the beloved superhero drama is still garnering new fans worldwide every year. Following the Smallville series finale, many audience members have been hoping that Welling"s DC series will return down the line.
While fans are passionately hoping that Smallville season 11 will happen in any capacity, Buffy2Ville shared new artwork with Welling"s version of the Man of Steel after becoming the DC icon in the series finale. The gallery also features Michael Rosenbaum"s Lex Luthor, Erica Durance"s Lois Lane, Laura Vandervoort"s Supergirl, and Kristin Kreuk"s Lana Lang. Check it out below:
Even though the live-action series ended in May 2011, the beloved Superman series did actually get a produced Smallville season 11, but as a comic book run, serving as a tie-in to the show. Written by one of Smallville"s long-time writers, Bryan Q. Miller, Smallville season 11 ran between 2012 and 2015.
What The Smallville Art Means For Tom Welling's Superman Legacy Close Over the last few years, Welling and Rosenbaum have developed a Smallville sequel, which would more or less serve as the show"s season 11, but through animation, with the goal to bring back the original cast members to voice their characters. That raised many fans" hopes that The CW show could be close to coming back, which is why Smallville fan art and celebration continue to exist around the series. However, the bigger challenge has been to get Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Studios onboard, as Welling and Rosenbaum have been waiting for the proper time to try to pitch it.
But if anything, the Smallville artwork with Welling and his fellow cast members just indicates even more that fans have not given up hope that season 11 will happen in one way or another. While Smallville season 11 may not be greenlit as of right now, the animated sequel is going to have to wait, following co-creator Al Gough"s recent comments about how DC Studios" Superman reboot is their primary priority for the Man of Steel. However, once David Corenswet"s Superman is established, the doors to additional Superman projects outside the DC Universe, including Smallville, may open again.

Seeing how great Welling and the Smallville cast could look as their respective characters again, it is an even greater reminder that if the show got resurrected, whether it is in live-action or animation, there are so many more stories left to be told with this take on the Superman mythology. From everything that they explored in the Smallville season 11 comic, it would be fun to see those stories adapted in the hypothetical sequel series. Hopefully, whether it is in the near or distant future, Smallville will get its chance to be revived in one way or another.
