DC Just Proved One DCU Hero Is Basically Unkillable And It"s The One You"d Least Expect

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Creature Commandos season 1, episode 7.DC just proved one DC Universe hero is basically unkillable - and it"s definitely one of the last characters people would generally expect. The DC Universe timeline beginning to get underway has led to a series of exciting revelations, with the DCU Superman trailer shedding light on what to expect from the movie before its 2025 release, and audiences getting their first look at the DCU Batman following the sneak preview Creature Commandos episode 6 gave of him. However, it"s worth noting that the reveals haven"t only been focused on setting up the DCU"s new big heroes by any means.
The DC Universe has also already spent its fair share of time fleshing out a roster of other exciting and engaging characters - including those the reboot has brought back from projects that were formerly DCEU releases before they were revamped to be a part of the new DC era. As it turns out, this has only reinforced the impeccable and surprising story of one DC character who initially started out in this era, since they"ve managed to survive even more seemingly fatal moments now they"ve entered the DC Universe properly via its first official release.
Creature Commandos' Ending Has Weasel Survive Another Potentially Lethal Scenario Close Weasel"s DC history has seen him survive a shocking amount of deadly events, despite having only appeared in two releases so far - one having initially been in the DCEU, and the other being the DC Universe"s first release. The character"s debut set up the first of these, with Weasel both avoiding the bloodbath that killed most of the rest of his team at the start of The Suicide Squad, and then surviving his own drowning despite it having seemed to kill him - with The Suicide Squad"s post-credits scene confirming that, despite it all, he"d lived to see another day.
Creature Commandos is also not shy about showing Weasel in this kind of scenario, and indeed his tragic backstory reveal in Creature Commandos episode 5 shows him surviving yet another encounter where almost everyone else perishes - this time in a tragic school fire that leaves law enforcement convinced Weasel was responsible for the deaths of all the children involved, despite having actually risked his life to try and protect and save them instead. Perhaps fittingly, Creature Commandos episode 7 once again sees Weasel placed in immense harm"s way before the series closes.
In episode 7, Weasel turns on the other Creature Commandos during their second-to-last attempt to kill Princess Rostovic, having been won over by the Princess and seeming to associate her with the young girl he tried and failed to save in the series of events that would land him in Belle Reve. In a fit of desperation, Weasel decides the best course of action is to fight back against his allies, and then makes the profoundly deadly decision to clamp his jaws down on Doctor Phosphorus" radioactive arm, despite this being a both futile and extraordinarily dangerous move.
Given the entirety of Creature Commandos has shown how lethal Phosphorus" powers are - with him melting through objects and people alike with ease throughout the series to gory results - for a moment it seems like Weasel"s fate is finally and essentially sealed, especially as Doctor Phosphorus is more than likely to barbeque him given he knows killing Princess Rostovic will save the world from a dire fate. However, Weasel survives once again, albeit with a severely burned-looking mouth, further cementing his status as the DC Universe"s current most remarkably unkillable character.
Why Weasel Has Already Survived So Many Seemingly Deadly Events Close On the surface, the easiest explanation for Weasel surviving so many events that have killed off so many others - and seemed almost custom-made to spell his end - is that it"s suitably surprising for audiences. Weasel is depicted as one of the most oblivious and instinctual characters in DC"s on-screen roster, and doesn"t seem to have that much in the way of distinct superpowers to protect him either, making him a seemingly logical choice to kill off in either The Suicide Squad or Creature Commandos, since neither was shy about ending the lives of the heroes and villains within them.
As such, Weasel escaping so much certain doom is the more unexpected result - ensuring viewers are kept that little bit more on the edge of their seats. This same kind of reasoning appears to be why Nina dies her tragic death at the end of Creature Commandos, as her good-natured and pacifistic depiction likely led a fair share of viewers to believe her survival was the most likely out of all of the main cast, serving as the proverbial other side of the coin to Weasel himself.
It"s also worth noting that Weasel"s consistent survival after The Suicide Squad may at this point be something of a running joke, since his debut in The Suicide Squad had him beat the odds. Since Gunn"s superhero releases tend to lean into comedy - be that the lighter comedy of the Guardians trilogy or the darker, blood-soaked jokes of The Suicide Squad - it makes sense Weasel would be made into something of a cosmic joke, as the last character people would expect to see leaving a situation that"s killed others is able to avoid the Grim Reaper again and again.
Weasel's Ability To Avoid A Grisly Fate Makes His DCU Future All The More Interesting Close Given Weasel has developed a remarkable talent for walking relatively unscathed out of scenarios wherein his death seemed inevitable and impending, what"s next for the character becomes all the more interesting. While it"s unlikely Weasel will be a Superman-level big figure in the franchise, it does seem he"s an effective way to tie together the DCU - as indeed his appearance works to tie Creature Commandos closer to The Suicide Squad in the first place, and also appears to be in line with James Gunn"s history of having eccentric animal-like characters as key parts of his superhero stories.
Given Weasel"s ties to Belle Reve and Amanda Waller, it could make most sense for him to next appear in Peacemaker season 2 or the upcoming Waller show.
Making Weasel a character who can canonically walk into most frays and escape alive opens up the possibility for some truly fascinating future appearances, since the DC Universe could theoretically now have him crop up anywhere and justifiably continue on his merry if somewhat oblivious way without it seeming too out of place or at odds with his story. Depending on how long Weasel"s DC Universe story continues for, his basically unkillable nature and surprisingly well-intentioned spirit could well make his narrow death escapes the franchise"s most consistent running gag.
