As was shown in Creature Commandos episode 5, Task Force M returned to Pokolistan to kill Princess Illana Rostovic so that the future WWIII she starts according to Circe"s vision never comes to pass. That said, Illana and her knights were alerted to the assassination attempt by Rick Flag and sent Task Force M scattering, as Rick refuses to believe that Rostovic is a danger and had also found evidence that something more is going on that has yet to be revealed. Flashbacks reveal Alex’s wife and son, and his desire to cure cancer via nuclear fusion. However, he needed Thorne’s funding, who was selling Alex"s nuclear experiments and data to Bialya, an oppressive regime.
Thorne killed Alex’s wife and son, making it look as though he murdered them before having Sartorius thrown in his own nuclear machine, wanting Alex dead after he gave Thorne false nuclear secrets to the Bialyans.
