If Fantastic Four: First Steps Doesn’t Prove Thing Is Marvel’s Most Badass Hero, This Comic Will
The Thing joins the MCU with this summer’s
Fantastic Four: First Steps, but on the off-chance the film doesn’t live up to the character’s full potential as an all-time Marvel powerhouse, then thankfully,
Marvel has exactly the comic coming to remedy that, Marvel All-On-One #1, in which Ben Grimm will battle his way through the whole Marvel Universe.
As reported by BleedingCool.com, Marvel All-On-One #1, written by Ryan North, with art by Ed McGuinness, will be an extra-length issue of practically non-stop action, as the Thing brawls with the entire host of Marvel’s greatest heroes.

Coming in August from Marvel Comics, All-On-One will be the perfect follow-up to First Steps, especially for new fans of the Fantastic Four franchise, and if the movie doesn’t showcase the upper limits of the Thing’s power, this comic will give him the big moment he deserves this summer.
The Thing Takes All Of Marvel's Other Heroes In The Publisher's Comic Follow-Up To "Fantastic Four: First Steps" Marvel All-On-One #1; Written By Ryan North; Art By Ed McGuinness; Available August 20, 2025 From Marvel Comics Close
Marvel All-On-One #1 sounds like it is going to be the definition of an action-packed issue, designed for the sole purpose of reminding readers that the Thing is one of Marvel"s best fighters, not to mention one of its most thoroughly badass heroes. As exciting as the Thing battling other Marvel heroes sounds, for fans who want to know "why," the advanced synopsis for the issue makes it clear this question is part of the story, framing it as a mystery. The solicitation reads:
THE THING VS. THE MARVEL UNIVERSE! Ben Grimm, A.K.A. The Thing: He"s the ever-lovin" idol of millions and powerhouse of the Fantastic Four. He"s strong, he"s kind, and he never gives up. And he"s also tired, and he"s sore, and he"s grumpy. There"s always a new threat facing the world or the galaxy or the universe – and somehow, he and the rest of the Fantastic Four are always the only ones who can stop it. Ben Grimm is sick and tired of it. He just wants a break! But when he returns to Earth after a solo mission in space to discover the Fantastic Four have turned against him – along with the rest of New York City, and, apparently, the entire world – he"s got a mystery to solve…and a whole wide world to clobber.
In other words, has found a fun, perfect conceit to tell a "Thing vs. Everybody" tale, as artist Ed McGuinness summed it up.

Related 8 Upgrades That Finally Made Thing Stronger Than the Hulk The Hulk may be a major Marvel powerhouse, but the Fantastic Four"s Thing has proven that he can be even stronger thanks to a few epic power-ups.
Posts 4 The Thing is known as a strong Marvel hero, of course, but his actual power levels and durability in combat are often underappreciated by contemporary Marvel fans. Still, the Thing has repeatedly proven himself against other upper-echelon Marvel heavyweights, including going toe-to-toe with the Hulk, still widely considered the standard-bearer in combat in Marvel Comics, more than once in their shared sixty-plus year history. Further, Ben Grimm"s tactical intelligence is also underrated, and readers should expect All-On-One will give him a chance to flex both physically and mentally.
"Marvel All-On-One" Is All Action, But That Doesn't Mean It Won't Have Impactful Character Moments For Ben Grimm Concept Art By Ed McGuinness Close
When Marvel promises non-stop action in All-On-One #1, this should be taken literally, as the book"s creative team has revealed that the issue legitimately does not slow down once it gets started, featuring an entire book of full-page and double-page action shots. According to writer Ryan North:
So, Ed McGuinness is a modern legend, and working with him is obviously going to be a thrill. BUT – working with him on an issue that"s so big, explosive, and clobber-filled that it HAS to be told in JUST splash pages and double-page spreads, well, that"s literally a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Every single page is an artist"s showcase, but it"s ALSO the biggest Thing story I"ve ever told, and has a ton of VERY fun battles. And heart too? Moments of recognition and self-discovery? It was a joy to write, one that"s only been surpassed every day as I see the new joys of Ed bringing each page to spectacular life.
In addition to action, North promises pathos, and meaningful character moments, making this the ideal comic book follow-up to Fantastic Four: First Steps, one which seems certain to satisfy Thing fans new and old alike.
With the cover for the issue depicting Thing fending off Iron Man, Hulk, Venom, the X-Men, and more, fans only have a taste of what the issue has in store.
Whether the MCU version of the Thing gets to display his true power levels on screen or not, the movie will certainly leave people wanting more Ben Grimm. Marvel All-On-One, which hits shelves a month after the film"s release, will scratch that itch, telling what is shaping up to be an instantly-iconic Thing story.
