I Know Which Version Of Steve Rogers Chris Evans Should Play In Avengers: Doomsday (& It’s Not HYDRA’s Captain America)

Many think Chris Evans will return to the MCU in Avengers: Doomsday as HYDRA"s Captain America, but I think it would be better to see him bring a different version of Steve Rogers into live-action. After he debuted as Steve Rogers in 2011"s Captain America: The First Avenger, we saw Chris Evans" superhero undergo huge transformations and become central to the MCU. His retirement from the role in 2019"s Avengers Endgame was very emotional, but we recently saw Evans back in action in Deadpool & Wolverine, and he"ll be returning again very soon.
Chris Evans has been cast alongside the likes of Robert Downey Jr., Anthony Mackie, Benedict Cumberbatch and more in the Russo brothers" upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. This confirmation was soon followed by the reveal that Hayley Atwell would also be returning in the Phase 6 crossover movie, which has me very excited about the possibilities of reuniting Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter. I reckon I"ve worked out exactly which version of Steve Rogers Chris Evans should play in Avengers: Doomsday, too, and it"s not who you"d expect.
Hayley Atwell May Portray Captain Carter In Avengers: Doomsday Hayley Atwell Debuted As Captain Carter In The Animated What If...? Series

Some have expressed worries that Chris Evans and Hayley Atwell"s returns in Avengers: Doomsday could spoil their perfect ending in Avengers: Endgame. However, this could easily be solved by having them play variants of their iconic MCU characters, and I think it would be great for Marvel Studios to introduce some of the variants seen in Marvel Animation"s What If...? series into live-action. This means Hayley Atwell could bring What If...?"s Captain Carter into live-action in Avengers: Doomsday, following What If...?"s conclusion in season 3.
Hayley Atwell previously portrayed a live-action version of Captain Carter in 2022"s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. This iteration, however, had no connection to her animated What If...? counterpart, and was instead a different version of Captain Carter who ultimately met her demise at the hands of the Scarlet Witch. Since What If...? is ending after season 3, I"d love to see the animated version of Captain Carter make the move into live-action in Avengers: Doomsday, and this makes me think Chris Evans" new character could follow the same pattern.
What If…?’s HYDRA Stomper Is The Perfect Role For Chris Evans In Avengers: Doomsday The HYDRA Stomper Has Been Steve Rogers' Most Regular Variant In What If...? Close Since it"s possible that Hayley Atwell could be playing a live-action version of her What If...? hero, Chris Evans could also do the same. Evans doesn"t voice Steve Rogers in What If...?, with Josh Keaton instead taking over the role for animation, though Steve Rogers does still have Chris Evans" likeness. This makes me think that Chris Evans could play one of What If...?"s Steve Rogers variants in Avengers: Doomsday, and I would love to see him bring the HYDRA Stomper to life in Phase 6, which could also give him his much-wanted evil twist.

Steve Rogers" HYDRA Stomper followed a similar storyline to the MCU"s Bucky Barnes in What If...?. He was presumed dead during World War II, but returned in the present day under the mind-control of an evil organization, in this case, the Red Room rather than HYDRA. Rogers" HYDRA Stomper was last seen sacrificing himself to bring down the Red Room, though he was teased to have survived. This makes me think his jump into the live-action MCU has been perfectly set up, and I would love to see this come to fruition.
I Want Other What If…? Variants To Appear In The Live-Action MCU Many What If...? Heroes Could Debut In Live-Action

Along with Captain Carter and Steve Rogers" HYDRA Stomper, I"d love to see many other variants from the animated What If...? series make the move to live-action in Avengers: Doomsday. It would be brilliant to see the likes of T"Challa"s Star-Lord, Strange Supreme, Party Thor, Happy Hogan"s Freak, Nova Corps Nebula, Sakaaran Iron Man, the heroic Hela and Kahhori, among others, appear in live-action. This would create the perfect opportunity for some of the MCU"s biggest stars and most wasted characters to return, which makes me very excited.

Posts 3 While it would be great to see any number of animated variants from What If...? make the move to live-action, I would be most excited to see Hayley Atwell and Chris Evans develop the mythology of Captain Carter and Steve Rogers" HYDRA Stomper in Avengers: Doomsday. This could be the perfect MCU project to fulfill this mission, as Robert Downey Jr. has already been recast as Doctor Doom, so other MCU veterans could also play different versions of their classic roles. If this comes to fruition, Avengers: Doomsday will be the most character-filled MCU movie yet.
