Chris Hemsworth is opening up about fellow actors criticizing the
Marvel Cinematic Universe after his own comments on the latest Thor movie. Despite being the superhero franchise that took the comic book genre in Hollywood to a new level, Marvel Studios has been dealing with a lot of creative struggles. Ever since The Multiverse Saga began, the MCU movies and TV shows have been facing many ups and downs, leading to more criticism of the franchise.
In a new interview with The Times, nearly two weeks after opening up about his regrets with Thor: Love and Thunder, Hemsworth has spoken out about actors who have slammed MCU movies as of late. Hemsworth shared the following about what he thinks regarding fellow actors giving MCU films a rough time:
It’s, like, ‘They’re films that are successful, put me in one! Oh, mine didn’t work? I’ll bash them.’ Look, I grew up on a soap opera. And it used to bother me when actors would later talk about the show with guilt or shame. Humility goes a long way.

Hemsworth Hits Back At Directors Insulting Superhero Movies Close Actors are by no means the only group who have been vocal critics of the MCU, as there have also been a handful of major Hollywood directors to give comic book films harsh words. Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola have particularly taken over the headlines a number of times with prior statements debating whether superhero movies can be considered real cinema. As such, Hemsworth also had things to say about the critical filmmakers too.
In the same interview with The Times, Hemsworth stressed, "It felt harsh, and it bothers me, especially from heroes. It was an eye-roll for me, people bashing the superhero space." Hemsworth added, "Those guys had films that didn’t work too — we all have. When they talked about what was wrong with superheroes, I thought, cool, tell that to the billions who watch them. Were they all wrong?“ The Avengers veteran also expressed that "Cinema-going did not change because of superheroes, but because of smartphones and social media. Superhero films actually kept people in the cinemas during that transition, and now people are coming back. So they deserve a little more appreciation.“
Even though Scorsese and Coppola may never have a change of heart on the matter, the superhero movie landscape isn't going away any time soon. With Marvel Studios and Disney focusing more on quality over quantity as James Gunn is building his new DC Universe, Hollywood looks set to continue to focus on telling various superhero stories to its audience. Hopefully, as the
MCU goes forward in the coming years, the franchise will be able to start restoring some of its lost magic.
