The perfect replacement for the Guardians of the Galaxy might have been introduced during Loki season 2. The Guardians of the Galaxy have been a staple of the MCU since their debut in James Gunn's eponymous 2014 movie, yet 2023's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 saw the original team embark on their final mission, saving Rocket's life before disbanding and going their separate ways. The futures of the new Guardians of the Galaxy team and the members of the original group haven't yet been confirmed, so to fill the void left by the beloved MCU team, Marvel Studios may have just introduced the perfect new group to replace them.
Tom Hiddleston returned as the God of Mischief in Loki season 2, premiering on October 5, 2023, as part of Phase 5 of the MCU. Hiddleston's Loki was joined once again by his newfound family from the Time Variance Authority (TVA), most of whom debuted in Loki season 1. Faced with the catastrophic meltdown of the TVA's Temporal Loom following the destruction of the Sacred Timeline in Loki season 1's finale, Loki and his team have been battling for the fate of the multiverse in season 2. Loki's transformation from villain to hero sets him up to lead his own team, which has been showcased already in Loki season 2.
Loki Introduces The Guardians of The Galaxy's Real Replacement Close There are many similarities between the Guardians of the Galaxy and Loki's team in Loki season 2, setting up the new group to replace the MCU's original cosmic superheroes. Loki's MCU team comprises Owen Wilson's TVA agent Mobius M. Mobius, Sophia Di Martino's Sylvie, Wunmi Mosaku's Hunter B-15, Eugene Cordero's Casey, and Ke Huy Quan's Ouroboros, a.k.a. OB. Consisting mostly of workers from the TVA, aside from Loki and Sylvie, this new team has an intimate knowledge of time, the universe, and any number of incomprehensible concepts that set them up to be the perfect protectors of the cosmos in the Guardians of the Galaxy's place.
Loki's team also included a variant of Kang the Conqueror, Victor Timely, though his fate in the MCU is unclear.
Aside from their collective knowledge, both Loki's team and the Guardians of the Galaxy's members all have tragic backstories, with the former group all being ripped from their lives by He Who Remains and transformed into TVA staff. Most of these two groups also started their MCU journeys as villains - or at least questionable individuals - and both teams comprise misfits and outsiders that have found a new family with each other, no matter how unorthodox their connections may be. While the Guardians of the Galaxy protected the universe, Loki's team of "losers" protect the stability of the multiverse, yet their hopes for success still hang in the balance.
What The Future Could Look Like For Loki's Losers

Loki season 2's finale will rewind time and bring Loki back to the TVA moments before the explosion of the Temporal Loom. This means his team of heroes will be restored after they were thrust back into the lives on their branched timelines in Loki season 2, episode 5, "Science/Fiction." With their memories intact, and Loki's time-slipping ability under control, it's possible they could mend the damage to the Temporal Loom, though what impact this will have on the Multiverse Saga is yet to be seen. Loki could bring his new family with him in the MCU's future - it would be great to see Mobius and Thor be introduced.
