Marvel Star Explains How The MCU Can Reach Avengers: Endgame’s Success Again
Summary
- The success of Avengers: Endgame can be replicated by focusing on character development and making the audience care about them.
- The MCU has established many wonderful characters in the last phase, and fans would like to see them team up and create new pairings.
- The next Avengers movie could achieve similar excitement by featuring these new character pair-ups and creating a sense of anticipation.
Ms. Marvel star Iman Vellani explains how the Marvel Cinematic Universe can find similar success to
Avengers: Endgame again. 2019's Avengers: Endgame will be followed by Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, the first movie for Earth's Mightiest Heroes since Phase 3, in 2026. Avengers: Endgame's ending marked the end of an era for the MCU, and the universe has never managed to get to the same level of popularity it had during the height of the Infinity Saga.
Speaking with The Direct, Vellani talked about the current state of the MCU's Multiverse Saga and how Marvel can reach Avengers: Endgame levels of excitement again. According to the actress, to reach the heights of one of the best MCU movies, Marvel needs to work on "making the audience care about their characters." Vellani notes all the recent additions to the MCU — of which her Kamala Khan is included — and explains that pairing up those characters could be the key to the MCU getting back to Avengers: Endgame's level. Check out the full quote below:
“I don't know. I don't know if it's about just getting bigger and bigger and bigger. Because then, like, what's left? You know, I think it's just about making the audience care about their characters. And I think they've established so many wonderful characters in the last phase of the MCU that it would be nice to see them all again and see them team up. I think, because there are so many new characters people want to like, start shipping people together and be like, 'Oh, seeing Kamala and like the Red Guardian together.' Like imagining all these pair-ups, and I think that would definitely pay off. It'll be like, you know, the next Avengers.”

How The MCU Is Already Making Changes Marvel Studios Has Shown That It Is Listening To Recent Criticism
Phase 4 was the MCU's most criticized by far, and most of that is due to how Avengers: Endgame set an impossible precedent for the MCU. The latest Avengers movie set the golden standard for Marvel in terms of box office numbers, visual effects, character interactions, and the end of arcs. The MCU was very different after Avengers: Endgame, with key players like Chris Evans' Captain America and Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man no longer part of the franchise.
Marvel tried to move forward by rapidly expanding, with supporting characters getting their own series and several new heroes being introduced. While Disney+ allowed the MCU to explore new formats and shine the spotlight on characters that had not been fully developed before, the rapid pace at which Marvel put content out led to many projects feeling rushed, having VFX problems, and more. The MCU also started to feel like homework to many fans, which has led to diminishing box office returns.
Thankfully, Marvel Studios is making changes to fix what went wrong. Marvel has delayed its slate of films to make sure that the best possible versions of those projects are released, with the same happening on the TV side. Marvel is currently reevaluating its Disney+ output, with the studio now adding proper showrunners to future projects and slowing the pace to allow the series' development to really nail down concepts, story elements, and character arcs. With fewer projects released each year, the MCU can focus on getting the quality up to
Avengers: Endgame's standards.
