Once upon a time, conversations circled the superhero movie landscape regarding Jon Hamm playing Mister Sinister, a classic X-Men villain that Fox's films, shockingly, never explored. Though Sinister's name was teased at the end of The New Mutants as a possible looming big bad, three years later the Fox continuity of the X-Men would officially end, putting the ball in Marvel Studios' court and robbing Hamm of his chance.

More than willing to lend his talents to the world of the MCU, a wide breadth of possible characters soon to enter the MCU would be perfect for Jon Hamm, especially considering his impressive range as an actor. As both the X-Men and the Fantastic Four are ushered into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a whole new crop of yet-to-be-seen characters find themselves in need of a performer like Hamm to take the reins.

Nathaniel Essex Close It goes without saying that Mister Sinister remains an excellent choice for Jon Hamm to mark his MCU debut with, after the role had escaped his grasp years ago. Nathaniel Essex is a depraved scientist obsessed with perfecting the human genome, iterating upon the DNA of himself and his subjects to become something greater. Despite being such a prominent villain in the comics, Mister Sinister never made a full appearance in any X-Men film, making him a great choice for a fresh antagonist to introduce the team within the MCU. Jon Hamm's experience playing doctors and ability to project a signature air of superiority makes him an obvious fit for the manipulative Mister Sinister.
9 Doctor Doom The ruler of Latveria Close By far the most iconic Marvel villain yet to be introduced to the MCU, Doctor Doom's appearance in the MCU is hotly anticipated, being under the umbrella of characters previously locked-out of the franchise now on the table thanks to the Fox merger with Disney. Jon Hamm recently brought up Dr. Doom himself in his interview with Screen Rant, mentioning him as another great story Marvel still has yet to adapt. There's no denying that Hamm could shoulder the screen presence the infamous dictator deserves, his experience in voice acting being a great shot at maintaining a killer performance even from behind a metal mask.

An otherworldly figure in Marvel Comics' cosmology, The Silver Surfer is an odd, but striking character, having had one on-screen appearance in Fox's Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Commonly associated with the Fantastic Four thanks to his status as staple villain Galactus' former lackey, The Silver Surfer is freshly available to the MCU as a new hero. Jon Hamm's experience as the Archangel Gabriel in the series Good Omens points to his ability to portray a displaced divine being, perfect for the otherworldly protector of the cosmos.
7 Franklin Storm Susan and Johnny's tragically-fated father

Though not a superpowered hero or a world-threatening villain, Franklin Storm is an incredibly important, if short-lived, character in the Fantastic Four's mythos. The father of Susan and Johnny Storm, Franklin Storm was an acclaimed surgeon whose life fell into ruin after accidentally killing someone, landing him in prison. In the comics, Franklin escapes only to be impersonated by a Skrull and ultimately killed. Jon Hamm has the acting chops to see this heartbreaking story through while looking the part of the Storm patriarch, having already played an old doctor in A Young Doctor's Notebook.

In his brief and only appearance in a Marvel comic, Hamm is demonstrated to be friends with Emma Frost, sharing a friendly kiss with the telepath while sipping on champagne at the exclusive Hellfire Gala. It's fair to say that a cameo such as this may be a waste of Hamm's talents, but there's no ignoring that this scene would be hilarious to see re-created in a mainline X-Men movie.
5 The Maker There are many iterations of Reed Richards to go around

Though his square jaw and history with intellectual roles may have suited Jon Hamm perfectly for the role of Mr. Fantastic, he may have been beaten to the punch with Pedro Pascal in talks for playing Reed Richards. That's not to say that an alternate version of Reed Richards is off the table, however, specifically the Ultimate continuity variant of the character that would go on to become The Maker. Crossing over into the mainline universe as a villain, Jon Hamm as an evil version of Mr. Fantastic could be a great way for the MCU to pivot the multiverse saga into a Fantastic Four story.

Compared to the other villains floating around Jon Hamm's name, Absorbing Man seems like a more physical, brutish choice that betrays the actor's penchant for calm, collected characters. A jailed convict, Carl "Crusher" Creel gains the ability to take on the properties of matter he touches, becoming the Absorbing Man and breaking out of prison to begin a crazed life of crime. Hamm is no stranger to playing violent criminals, as his role as "Buddy" in Baby Driver proved that the man could get very violent very quickly, which suits Absorbing Man's needs just fine.
3 Firepower Jack Taggert rivals Tony Stark's abilities in armor

Jack Taggert was the ace armor pilot who found himself in Tony Stark's crosshairs in Marvel Comics' Armor Wars storyline, in which Iron Man led a single-handed crusade to destroy all the copycat Iron Man suits the world over. Giving Iron Man enough trouble to have to fake his own death, Firepower was the final villain of the Armor Wars run. Hamm played Iron Man himself in Hulu's M.O.D.O.K. series, and adjusting his performance to a maniacal government agent turned Iron Man knockoff wouldn't be the furthest reach. With Armor Wars still an upcoming MCU release, Jon Hamm's appearance as Firepower wouldn't be out of the question for the near-future.
2 Norman Osborne Earth-616's homegrown Norman has yet to appear Close Although Willem Dafoe may have reprised his role as Norman Osborne in Spider-Man: No Way Home, he was, at the end of the day, an invader from another dimension. The MCU's Earth-616 has yet to reveal its own timeline's Norman, certainly still on the table to become the Green Goblin even after the death of Dafoe's version. There couldn't be a more fitting performer than Jon Hamm to shoulder this undertaking, being able to portray both the cold, collected business-side of Norman Osborne right alongside the frightening bouts of rage he's prone to as the Green Goblin.

Considering a lawyer was the role of Jon Hamm in one of his best movies, Howl, a villainous litigator might just be the perfect fit for the actor in the MCU. Enter Harry Leland, a prestigious lawyer and member of the Hellfire Club who has rushed to the defense of countless criminal organizations. Though having mutant powers, Harry Leland's true threat lies in his position of power and legal acumen, an unorthodox, by-the-rules antagonist. Across the entire MCU, Harry Leland might just be the role custom-made for Hamm's experience and acting skill, a perfect vessel for the lauded performer to conduct his trademark blend of authority, intimidation, and dry humor.
