Clever Marvel Theory Fixes MCU Phase 5"s Mistake Of Introducing A Too Overpowered Hero
Summary
- G'iah's powers may be weaker than the Avengers she gets them from, potentially limiting her abilities.
- G'iah and Gravik's powers may only be active when intentionally used, which puts a mental limit on her strength.
- G'iah's overwhelming power could create issues for the MCU, as she could easily solve every problem and overshadow other heroes. Marvel needs to find a way to bring her power level down to maintain narrative tension.
The MCU introduced an extremely powerful character in Phase 5's
Secret Invasion, but there is an interesting new theory that could fix this issue. Marvel's Secret Invasion had one of the worst-reviewed finales of any Disney+ MCU show, and part of the reason is what the series did to G'iah, played by Emilia Clarke. In the finale, G'iah absorbs the DNA of several of the MCU's most powerful heroes who were present at the battle of Earth in Avengers: Endgame.
She and Gravik both possessed these powers, but she is now the only one with these abilities after killing him in battle. G'iah has the powers of Captain Marvel, Drax, Thanos, Hulk, Ghost, Ebony Maw, Korg, Mantis, Groot, and presumably more, making her one of the most powerful MCU heroes on Earth. This presents a massive problem for Marvel because almost every issue could now be solved by calling on G'iah to fix it. However, one theory may give tone her down a bit and allow future MCU conflict to retain their tension.

G'iah Received Weakened Versions Of The Avengers' Powers Theory Explained She Doesn't Use Every Ability Close G'iah is incredibly powerful in the MCU, but there could be a way for the franchise to downgrade her abilities. In a theory shared on the MCUTheories Reddit page, a user suggests G'iah's powers might not be as powerful as the Avengers whom she gets them from. As an example of evidence, one poster points out that both characters use the Extremis powers, as seen with Aldrich Killian in Iron Man 3, but they only use the healing component, not the heat-based ones.
It's harder to say if the other powers are at the same level as their respective heroes. G'iah's Hulk punch seems powerful, but it's unclear if it equals the might of Bruce Banner. The same could be said for Drax and Thanos, but there is a second part to this theory that could diminish her strength further.
G'iah And Gravik's Powers Being Weaker Explains How She Killed Him Other Avengers Could Withstand What Killed Gravik
G'iah takes care of Gravik once and for all by punching a hole through him via a Captain Marvel photon blast. However, the theory suggests that if Gravik was an all-powerful being, there are multiple ways he could have avoided it. He could have used Ghost's abilities to avoid it, absorbed the energy like Captain Marvel, or survived it with the strength of Hulk and Thanos. The photon went right through him, though, suggesting he and G'iah may not be too powerful if all it takes is a photon blast to kill them.
One other interesting part of their fight is that their abilities were only active when they used them. So, they might still have the same power levels as other MCU heroes and villains, but they may only be activated when intentionally "turned on." This puts a mental limit on G'iah's power, as what she can use when may be dampened by confusion, surprise, etc.
Why G'iah Being The Most Overpowered MCU Hero Is Unsustainable She Can Solve Every Problem in the MCU
One critique that has remained present throughout the MCU is why other Avengers members don't show up when there's a global threat that one hero or a few take on themselves. The same issue will certainly be present with G'iah, who can take on almost anyone thanks to her newly acquired powers. Many viewers ask why Nick Fury didn't call Captain Marvel during The Avengers or Age of Ultron, and there is no excuse for G'iah not being able to show up and fight whatever villain shows up on Earth next.
The MCU already has issues with not addressing events that occurred in Phase 5, such as the massive dead celestial left emerging from Earth after Eternals. G'iah being so overpowered is going to have to be addressed by Marvel, but it isn't something sustainable for the universe moving forward. Marvel will need to find a way to bring G'iah's power level down a bit so that she doesn't overshadow other heroes or remove narrative tension all together.
