Superman had his DCEU franchise continued. One of the big unfinished chapters in the DCEU movie timeline was Cavill's Superman story, as the British star returned in 2022 in the Black Adam post-credits scene. However, whatever initial plans were being eyed got scrapped in favor of James Gunn's new DC Universe.
In a new interview with GQ, Snyder opened up more on what he had in store for Cavill's Superman story following Zack Snyder's Justice League ending. As the Man of Tomorrow would have dealt with Darkseid, it would have gotten Cavill's Superman trilogy to come full circle, as he shared the following:
He was going to have to succumb to the Anti-life, be destroyed, turn the clock back, and then get his chance for this battle against Darkseid. If you will... that would have finished his trilogy of becoming this guardian, and sort of, return him to his humanity.
