Which Avengers Has Kang The Conqueror Killed?
Summary
- Kang the Conqueror has seemingly already killed many Avengers, including Thor, in the MCU, as referenced in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
- Kang's battles with the Avengers from other timelines don't appear to have ended in their favor, given the villain implies he's killed a large number of them across the multiverse.
- While Kang may have killed numerous Avengers, his defeat at the hands of Ant-Man and the Wasp was due to his desperation, ego, and the damage to his suit, showcasing the MCU heroes' intelligence and resilience.
According to
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, many MCU Avengers have already been killed at the hands of Kang the Conqueror. The references to the Avengers in the MCU's first Phase 5 film served as an acknowledgment of Kang the Conqueror's history with Earth's Mightiest Heroes in Marvel Comics. While Jonathan Majors' iteration of the villain was an enemy only to Paul Rudd's Scott Lang and his allies in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the Marvel Comics character has an infamous reputation as one of the Avengers' greatest villains.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe's Kang the Conqueror hasn't met the Avengers on-screen yet, but his interactions with Ant-Man confirm that he is indeed aware of Earth's superhero team. Kang the Conqueror seems to have been opposed by Avengers teams from a variety of other timelines. How these battles played out is unclear, but if Kang's comments are any indication, they didn't end in the Avengers' favor. After all, it took the might of the Council of Kangs for Kang to be taken out of commission and exiled to the Quantum Realm. So in the case of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania's Kang variant, it appears that the Avengers have constantly failed to beat him.

Kang Has Killed Thor (& Seemingly Other Avengers) In The MCU
![]()
Kang's first conversation with Scott creates the impression that
an alternate timeline version of Thor (and presumably other members of the Avengers) died trying to stop Kang. Upon hearing that Scott is an Avenger, the villain remarked, "you’re an Avenger… have I killed you before? They all blur together after a while." This line comes with the obvious implication that countless Avengers have been killed by Kang at this point. He then brings up Thor specifically by saying "you’re not the one with the hammer", which hints at the God of Thunder being among the casualties of his past encounters with the team.
Based on what is currently known of the Multiversal War, it seems that Kang's efforts to conquer universes would ultimately put him in the way of other iterations of the Avengers, meaning it's perhaps inevitable that the MCU villain had fought and killed them multiple times before eventually becoming trapped in the Quantum Realm. This would also perhaps explain why he remembers Thor before Ant-Man, as variants of the God of Thunder are more likely to have engaged Kang in the kind of epic battles that would leave him able to remember them - and perhaps more importantly, Thor's Asgardian lifespan also leaves him a much bigger window to potentially fight the Conqueror in as well.

Has Kang Killed The Avengers In Marvel Comics?
![]()
Based on the MCU's portrayal of him, Kang the Conqueror has experienced a greater degree of success fighting the Avengers than the Marvel Comics character. When engaged in battles with the Avengers, it's usually Kang who's on the losing end. However, there were at least two noteworthy incidents where an Avenger was killed by Kang. The first of these was Swordsman, the comic counterpart of Hawkeye's Jacques Duquesne. Deemed as a weak opponent, Kang ignored Swordsman when capturing the Avengers, leading to the reformed villain setting out to stop him on his own. With help from Rama-Tut, Swordsman saved the Avengers and ruined Kang's plans, but was killed in the process.
One Avenger who died because of Kang - but has since returned - is Iron Man. In the 1990s, a shocking twist revealed that Kang manipulated the time-stream to turn Iron Man into one of his lackeys. As a result, the Avengers went back in time and teamed up with a teenage Tony Stark to stop the two. The confrontation brought the present-day Iron Man back to his senses, enabling him to fight back against Kang the Conqueror. To redeem himself for his crimes, Iron Man made the ultimate sacrifice and died to give the Avengers a win over Kang.
Which Avengers Kang Is Most Likely To Kill In The MCU's Future
![]()
For the MCU, Kang getting either of these comic moments is unlikely to happen. Swordsman exists in the MCU, but has only been depicted as a person with an interest in swordsmanship, not as a true superhero, making him a poor candidate for a role in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. As for Iron Man, he technically can return via time travel and alternate timelines, but there's been no indication that Robert Downey, Jr. has any intention of playing Stark again. That being said, there are plenty of Marvel characters who could wind up falling victim to Kang in the MCU's future.
His supposed accomplishments prior to Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania set a high bar for the MCU character, who can prove just how deadly he truly is by masterminding the death of a major MCU hero. As for who he might kill, one possibility is Thor, as Kang has already referenced taking down the original MCU Avenger. Other alternatives could perhaps be War Machine or Smart Hulk, whose stories may not extend beyond the MCU's Phase 6. As for Ant-Man, he survived Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, but he isn't safe just yet, especially if he comes back for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
If Kang Has Killed So Many Avengers, How Did He Lose To Ant-Man?
![]()
Kang the Conqueror has been set up as the MCU's new Thanos, a supremely powerful adversary who'll be difficult to eliminate - particularly since he has already bragged about killing Avengers before. This meant that his defeat at the hands of Ant-Man and the Wasp came as a shock, as Scott Lang has often been viewed as one of the weaker members of the Avengers.
In Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, it was Kang the Conqueror's desperation and ego that brought about his downfall, so this could be a key element in defeating the villain in the MCU's future, especially if his other variants demonstrate these traits too. In addition to this, it's worth taking into account that Kang appeared to underestimate Scott right up until his defeat, which appears to have factored in considerably to how events transpired. This is something the Avengers would be unlikely to get the luxury of, both because Ant-Man has now defeated Kang before already, and because a roster of superpowered heroes is harder in general to underestimate.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania also established that Kang's abilities come from his access to the advanced technology in his suit of armor. Through the events of the film's final battle, Kang's costume is seriously damaged, meaning the villain had to resort to hand-to-hand combat to fight with Scott Lang. While this could have made him an easier adversary to defeat, the MCU's Ant-Man has often been underestimated, too, meaning he could perhaps be more powerful than he seems. After all, it's Scott Lang's intelligence, resilience, and willingness to sacrifice himself to save his family that puts the final nail in the coffin for Kang the Conqueror.
