The Scarlet Witch"s emotional sacrifice in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has been thrown into question in a wild new MCU theory that perfectly connects Wanda Maximoff to Doctor Doom. Since she is one of the most popular and beloved characters in the MCU, seeing Elizabeth Olsen"s Scarlet Witch sacrifice herself in 2022"s Doctor Strange sequel came as an unwelcome surprise to many. In the two years since, many theories have emerged suggesting ways the Scarlet Witch could return to the MCU, and a new one connects her to the Multiverse Saga"s new big-bad.
In the wake of Jonathan Majors" conviction and firing from Marvel Studios, Robert Downey Jr. was confirmed to be returning to the MCU, but not as Iron Man, rather an iconic Marvel villain, Doctor Doom. Downey Jr."s Doctor Doom casting has caused some confusion, but a new theory might have found the perfect answer to this unorthodox return. Interestingly, this theory also connects Downey Jr."s Doctor Doom to Wanda Maximoff, perhaps creating the perfect opportunity for the Scarlet Witch to make her highly-anticipated return to the MCU, too.
Doctor Doom May Be A Variant In The Void In Avengers: Doomsday Marvel Studios Has Already Established The Perfect Way To Introduce RDJ's Doctor Doom

A new theory posed by Comicodigy clears up any confusion concerning Robert Downey Jr."s recasting as Doctor Doom by suggesting he may be a variant who was pruned by the Time Variance Authority and sent to the Void at the End of Time. The Void was first seen in Loki season 1, and further developed in Deadpool & Wolverine as the dumping ground of the old TVA, where everything the organization prunes ends up. Downey Jr. becoming Doctor Doom may have been a huge diversion from the Sacred Timeline, which would constitute him being pruned to the Void.
Viewers have already seen this be the case for many entertaining MCU characters, including a plethora of Loki and Deadpool variants, as well as some of the franchise"s most formidable villains. Most notably, Downey Jr."s Doctor Doom could have a similar storyline to Emma Corrin"s Cassandra Nova from Deadpool & Wolverine, who was pruned at a young age but struck a deal with the TVA to construct her own empire in the Void, rather than being devoured by Alioth. Doctor Doom may have done the same, and this could lead to him partnering up with the Scarlet Witch.
The Scarlet Witch Has Already Been Teased To Be In The Void After Doctor Strange 2 Deadpool & Wolverine Made A Brilliant Reference To The Scarlet Witch Close After learning the error of her ways in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Elizabeth Olsen"s Scarlet Witch destroyed the Darkhold Castle on Mount Wundagore and every copy of the Darkhold across the multiverse, seemingly killing herself in the process. While Marvel Studios seems to have confirmed the Scarlet Witch"s death in subsequent projects, specifically Agatha All Along, Comicodigy"s theory suggests that she did not actually die. Instead, she may have inadvertently pruned herself, allowing her to return to the MCU as a citizen of the Void.
While the mechanics of how this would come to fruition haven"t been explored, there"s one huge clue in Deadpool & Wolverine that this was actually the case. The ceiling of the Resistance team"s hideout in Deadpool & Wolverine is the exact statue of the Scarlet Witch that was carved into the walls of the Darkhold Castle. If this monument ended up in the Void after Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, it"s possible Wanda Maximoff herself did, too. This implies she is still alive, and may have found her way into the arms of Doctor Doom.

After the events of Avengers Disassembled and House of M in Marvel Comics, Wanda Maximoff blocks her memory of her true identity and hides out in Transia, but is soon instead taken to Latveria by Doctor Doom. 2010"s Avengers: The Children"s Crusade storyline saw the Young Avengers, led by the Scarlet Witch"s reincarnated sons, Wiccan and Speed, learn that Doom had manipulated Wanda Maximoff into increasing her power and pulling off the previous events, before convincing her to fall in love with him and even become his bride.

The Void Could Become Doctor Doom’s Kingdom In Avengers: Secret Wars RDJ's Doctor Doom May Build Battleworld In The MCU

The idea that Doctor Doom could be residing in the Void supports a major theory that has persisted since the Void was first introduced in 2021"s Loki season 1. The Void is kind of a patchwork landscape created from the many realities and variants that the TVA has pruned over the millennia, reminding many of Marvel Comics" Battleworld from 2015"s Secret Wars event. In this storyline, Doctor Doom absorbs the power of the cosmic Beyonders, allowing him to bring together fragments of incursion-destroyed universes to save many variants on his new patchwork planet, Battleworld.
So far, Robert Downey Jr. has only been confirmed to appear as Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, but there is speculation that he could also be involved in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Spider-Man 4 and the as-yet-unconfirmed Doctor Strange 3, too.
Returning MCU directors, the Russo brothers, have promised to adapt Secret Wars as faithfully as possible in 2027"s Avengers: Secret Wars, so it"s likely Battleworld will be featured, and Robert Downey Jr."s Doctor Doom may even become God Emperor Doom. Crucially, people saved on Battleworld have no memory of their previous lives, which could explain why the Scarlet Witch has made no attempts to return after Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. If she"s in the Void with Doom, she may not remember her life in the MCU, but this will surely soon change.
