10 Best Characters In Batman’s The Dark Knight Trilogy, Ranked

Batman"s The Dark Knight trilogy stands to many as the best live-action Batman movies ever, and that is due to intriguing stories, gripping action scenes, and, above all, complex characters. There have been many live-action Batman movies over the years, but when director Christopher Nolan took on Batman Begins, the DC character was not nearly doing as well as he is nowadays when it comes to Batman"s theatrical appearances. Before Christian Bale"s debut as Bruce Wayne, the last live-action Batman actor was George Clooney.
Clooney"s Batman starred in 1997"s Batman & Robin, a brighter and goofier take on the Dark Knight, which was not at all what the hero"s adventures are supposed to be like. Then came The Dark Knight trilogy, which brought back a darker version of Batman and was loved by audiences and critics alike. Many heroes and villains contributed to the franchise"s success, but some more than others.
10 Ra’s Al Ghul Appeared In: Batman Begins & The Dark Knight Rises Close Liam Neeson is an accomplished actor, who has a particular set of skills that include a wide range when it comes to dramatic moments, as well as delivering exciting action scenes when it all goes down. Ra"s al Ghul is one of the most important characters to Christian Bale"s Batman. Neeson"s Batman villain was the first real mentor Bruce Wayne had on his path to becoming the Dark Knight, training under him and the League of Shadows.
Neeson did a great job as Ra"s, presenting the character"s calm and collected nature well, with a deadly persona waiting behind his controlled exterior. Appearing first as Henri Ducard and later revealing himself as Ra"s al Ghul, the plot twist allowed the character"s relationship with Bruce to be fleshed out more and gain a new level of complexity when he came to burn Gotham down.
9 Catwoman Appeared In: The Dark Knight Rises Close Anne Hathaway"s Catwoman only appeared in one movie in The Dark Knight trilogy, but she sure left her mark. Batman"s biggest love interest in the comics, Hathaway"s version of Selina Kyle also filled that role in the movie franchise. Catwoman and Batman had great chemistry in The Dark Knight Rises, with Selina"s unpredictability and playful personality being the perfect foil to Bruce"s Stoicism, helping get him back in action.
Selina"s anti-hero persona was perfectly used in the movie. First, she sells out Batman to Bane, acting out of her own interests. Then, she turns to the hero"s side, helping Batman save Gotham and even being the one to kill Bane. Selina and Bruce deciding to go to Italy and retire together was a fitting end to their story, allowing Catwoman and Batman to have a happy ending in live-action.
8 Scarecrow Appeared In: All Three The Dark Knight Trilogy Movies Close Long before he would come to win the Best Actor Oscar for a Christopher Nolan movie, Cillian Murphy played an overarching villain in the director"s The Dark Knight trilogy. Murphy"s Scarecrow was one of the main villains of Batman Begins, serving as a psychological foe to Batman in Christian Bale"s first movie outing as the DC hero. Jonathan Crane"s goal was to get people to be faced with their worst fears thanks to the Fear Toxin he had created.
Cillian Murphy"s The Dark Knight trilogy character is a special case, as Jonathan Crane is the only villain to appear in all three movies. While his biggest role came in his debut, Scarecrow still played interesting roles in subsequent movies. The villain was captured by Batman again in The Dark Knight and then became the judge of The Dark Knight Rises" "court," giving people the choice of death or exile. His deranged actions and sadistic nature made him an interesting villain.
7 Bane Appeared In: The Dark Knight Rises Close Tom Hardy"s Bane was not as deranged as some versions of the character have been in the comics, but he brought out the best in the villain. Bane can be so much more than just a physical threat to the Dark Knight, and Hardy"s version of Bane was also a smart character who executed a sound plan to take over Gotham City. That said, Bane was also the action-heavy villain fans have come to expect.
